Amazing #558 was a big disappointment. I have been enjoying the whole BND line. The art and story has been consistent between the different teams. In fact it has been surprising how well the editorial team has tied this together.

This issue is by far the weakest link to date. It is a shame. The art was horrible. Aunt May was unrecognizable. Spider man looked like wildly inconsistent and the menace did not look anything like what he looked like before. In fact, it seemed like few of the characters bore a resemblance to their earlier appearances.

The Freak is the lamest of all villains. He was built up to the this nearly invincible foe then this “final” battle lasts no time at all. The banter during Spidey’s battles is by far the worst banter of any of the Marvel Universe spidey’s being written right now. Secret Invasion and Invaders/Avengers Spidey were both way better then this spidey when it came to banter.

The real shame is that the book, with all of its poor writing and art moved forward the story lines related to Jonah and the election. It even had the lamest Skrull reference of the week.

If you haven’t bought this book don’t. I feel like I wasted time and money on this one.
