In one issue Justin Gray has dropped in a little back story for those new to the character, tied off a small part of what is surely a larger story arc, strengthened the dynamic between Hex & Arkahm and introduced a second arc. All this is delivered with tight dialogue and well paced action. Nice work, Mr Gray.

Not sure the same can be said of Moritat though; after a jaw dropping first issue the art on All Star Western is feeling increasingly rushed. While a few panels and pages are brilliant, gone is the dense, heavily populated, living and breathing Gotham of issue one. Now it’s just textured backgrounds and lifeless faces. While not terrible, it’s a shame after such a string start.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 3 - Good
