I really did like the first Issue of air. I thought it was smart, fresh, and rather nicely drawn. I didn't mind the bad ending so much, the subject matter and main character (acrophobic stewardess) kept me interested.
My opinion dipped with this issue though.
Here's what happens. Our sole protagonist has now assembled a group of rag-tag party of acquaintances and somehow figured out where "Narimar" is through some absurd code thing in a letter. She decides to take a chance on this and heads to where the code tells her to. The code in a letter device is overused and uninspired, I couldn't suspend my disbelief for long. We address a few ends from last issue and are left with a cliffhanger I couldn't care too much about.
I realize this is setting things up, but the tension building isn't done very nicely. The art I didn't mind too much. It wasn't anything outstanding, but it gets the job done. The panels and pacing however, were a different story. There was at least one instance where I got confused and didn't know which panel to read next. Wow. Not something you expect from a $2.99/GBP 2.15 comic.
To sum up, not promising. A strong start for G.Willow Wilson, but falls flat here. Lets hope she picks it up next month.
Great cover though.
