I want to like this book, I really do. The concept of a team of pre-Marvel Marvel characters are exactly my kind of thing, and I loved the mini series which came before. But so far I am so totally underwhelmed. I want to read more of Jimmy and the team in the present, maintaining the facade of an evil organisation. I want to see what that throws up, but the bottom line is that we get so little of that issue in, issue out. The main drive of the book is just moving so slowly that it’s making it incredibly difficult to get into the book. What story we do have per issue is then broken up intrusively, by a B-Story  set in the 50s, which to date has not tied in with main story. The artwork is muddy for those scenes, and while it does distinguish very obviously between the two, it also kind of grates in terms of style. The two just do not mesh.

It’s such an incredible shame. On paper this book should be brilliant, but four issues in I’m considering getting out. Something needs to change, and fast, or I suspect this series will struggle to survive the year.
