How can we enjoy a character who runs off into space with his head in his hands weeping everytime the detritus hits the fan?

My answer: by not taking him too seriously.

I almost hate to admit I enjoyed this. It just screams that I haven’t read comics long enough to know when to properly hate them. Because, God help me, I think this might be a good idea, similiar to a certain title from Marvel’s distinguished competitor: starts with a Booster ends with a Gold, though, without the complexities of time travel.

It might have helped if they approached the Sentry concept this way before wedging him into Marvel history or having him square off as a formidable opponent to the Hulk? Then again, maybe he just shouldn’t be squaring off with the Hulk?

The Age of Sentry does with the character what should have been done all along. It’s a light-hearted romp thru silver-age kitsch with, thus far, minor tie-ins. If it lacks anything, it’s the confidence to wreck the era even more than it did, sometimes forgetting it was only supposed to be a joke, or was it?

Overall it was an enjoyable read if you take it for what it’s worth. You might just have to accept the Sentry because he’s probably not going away. But who knows, he could cross paths with Mephisto somewhere down the line?
