It’s strange really, given that they’re both written by Paul Levitz, but I’m enjoying the Adventure Comics side of the Legion of Super-Heroes much more than the actual Legion ongoing. There’s something about Adventure Comics that just feels right; Levitz is penning a series that feels vibrant and original, and yet classic in its own way. He understands what goes on and writes each character with a majestic degree of skill and talent; the difference between this and the Legion, though, is that this feels more like a superhero space opera. It’s sprawling and epic and totally unexpected in its majesty, while the Legion becomes mired in its own sense of continuity and loyalty to the characters. There’s flair here, which is absent elsewhere and other than that there’s not much else to say, story-wise. The art by Geraldo Borges isn’t stellar, but services the content of the book well enough; it’s standard superhero fare and compliments Levitz’s great script.
