What a beautiful book! If you want “adventure,” you might want to look elsewhere; if you want a sweet story with beautiful art, this one doesn’t disappoint. The story by Geoff Johns takes the story further with Brainiac and Lex, but it is the story in Smallville that had me completely engrossed as Cassie and Connor catch up. Really, this is a simple, sweet, personal story that any comics fan can enjoy – especially if one enjoys Krypto. (And I hope we keep getting Krypto!)

But what really struck me in this book is the art by Francis Manapul. He gives the scenes in Smallville a rustic brown look, hinting at nastalgia, while the two teenagers reunite on the Kansas plain. The art is simplistic in some ways – with lots of close up on the two faces – but this only enhances the beauty of the scenes. This book is breathtaking and it’s hard not to linger on the panaramic landscapes Manapul produces. I cannot wait to see how he tackles scenes outside of Smallville in the next book.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
