The further we get into this series, the more I fall in love with Paul Cornell’s writing; everything in this series is fun and original and the way he makes each villain unique and outlandish only improves on the already high level of quality. There seems to be less of Luthor this issue, with the focus instead semi-shifting to the Secret Six as they battle Vandal Savage; Luthor’s there, but his impact on the issue is minimal, essentially resulting in a few brief moments of dialogue as he tries to convince Savage to leave him be. The art by Pete Woods, too, gets better every issue, and this month he excels at drawing the Secret Six and making each character look respectably like they do in their own book; it could almost be an issue of that series (where this story concludes). The back-up by Nick Spencer and RB Silva is fun, too, providing Jimmy Olsen with an outlandish scenario to endure, and a cliffhanger which made me laugh for a good few minutes; it’s nice to see someone carrying on the absurdity of Jack Kirby’s old Superman’s Pal stories, and it makes the all round package of the issue far more enjoyable.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
