In the vein of The Mighty and Irredeemable, Absolution is Christos Gage’s story of a superhero who goes unchecked and starts using the old “the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few” philosiphy to justify his megolmania.  Unlike The Mighty, and Iredeemable however, we see the specific cases where he goes overboard, and it’s hard to fault him for his decisions.  This is Batman killing the Joker before the blood gets too deep and the Joker gas gets too thick.  Superman offing Lex Luthor before he gets his hands on a nuclear weapon.  Exceot that this hero isn’t Batman or Superman, he’s more of a lesser known JLA character or a West Coast Avenger.  But one who’s committed to justice because he can’t stop seeing all the horrible things super powered villains do to every day people.

While there’s little questions his acts of “justice” are, in fact, murder, they also seem, well, just.

Robert Viacava’s art is a perfect balance.  His facial grammar is expressive without being over the top.  And man, he can draw some freaky eyes.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
