Alright, last week, things got a little bitter, a little heavy, a bit heated. So this week, we’re gonna take it down a notch and talk about a comic that we all know and love: Ultimate Spider-Man. This is a comic book’s comic book. It’s got all the stuff you’ve always loved about comics, since you were in short pants. Trust me, I know.
Once again, Bendis has (for the fifty seventh straight time) given us something edgy and exciting. This was a page turner. Doc Ock has Peter captured and tied up and he knows his name. Those are about the three most repeated, yet perilous things you can do to a superhero. Under the hold of some super industrial strength duct tape, Otto gets into Peter’s mind and makes him cry. He also rips out a tooth, with NO anesthetic. That’s hardcore. And of course, we don’t know where they’re going. Bendis’ bad guy avoids that most stereotypical of villainous moves, because he doesn’t tell Peter quite everything. Then the thing at the end….I can’t even mention it without spoilers, but it was good, and is gonna have some riveting consequences.
Bagley, or as I like to say, the man-who-just-keeps-drawing-without-sleep is up to his standard here, helping the story flow and showing us some really nice action scenes, as well as some tense quiet moments. I’m fairly certain he’s either got clones, or a very sophisticated computer system which do at least some of his pages for him, because the guy has never been late, and this isn’t the only book he’s doing. Either that, or Bagley hasn’t left the house in 4-odd years.
See? Light and breezy, just like I promised. This was a damn good time, and for fun, classic comics, Ultimate Spider-Man is just about the ultimate book.

This book must have been AMAZING to have 1-upped the Daredevil #59 for pick of the week.
I stopped reading DD a long time ago, so I didn’t read it. I’ve heard that it’s really good right now, but I’m like 2 years back, so I haven’t been able to hop back on.
I feel I have failed….
No way dude. You RULE.
Sweet!
I must concur with the dude, DD #59 did indeed rock. Everything Bendis has done for the last two years seems to be culminating… plus, what a great last page cliff hanger!
Also, it was very funny.
The last two issues of Daredevil have put that little bump in my throat where I know I’m like a step away from crying.
And yes, the last panel of #59 was AWESOME.
