What a big week for comics, just in the same week, when due to domestic needs I made the decision to start dropping titles. Sigh. Well one last week couldn’t hurt… I had a big stack today and again I surprise myself with my Pick, as I had two others lined up before I even cracked the second issue of Little Star #2.

Andi Watson has always been someone I was curious about, and the previous series, Love Fights, definitely made me a fan. His simple line work combined with the personal nature of his stories makes each issue an outstanding read.

Little Star is hitting a personal nerve with me, for reasons I’ll keep to myself, and while the story isn’t specifically about me (Andi wouldn’t remember me from when we met in San Diego two years ago), but a lot of the concepts are resonating, the same way when you listen to a Smiths song and you really feel like the lyrics are speaking to you, or about you. It’s funny how that works.

What really put this over the top was one scene specifically, which really doesn’t spoil anything story-wise, where the main character, who seems to be in his late 20s or so, visits his friend. His friend who also is married, has kids etc leads him to a locked room, which is locked to keep his kids out to keep them from messing with his project: A LEGO Star Destroyer. Yes, the huge one. Then they watch Episode IV, and the main character is inspired to… well you should pick it up and read it.

And so Andi Watson joins the likes of Nick Hornby in the ability to freak me out by mirroring my life in weird, specific ways. Huzzah!
