Pick of the Week Podcast

Pick of the Week #646 – Hey Kids! Comics! #1

Show Notes

It starts off punchy, and then eventually gets to hazy. But in the middle is some genuine comics analysis and introspection, and some damn fine books out this week. Jim Viscardi (comicbook.com) fills in for a recreating Conor Kilpatrick, and tries valiantly to hold on while Josh Flanagan descends into fatigue based insanity. Like Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, but with complaints about left hand panel stacking.

Comments

  1. Never thought I’d see the day Josh would have a sports metaphor that worked and was weirdly predictive of the 2018-2019 Las Angeles season

  2. Those covers for Hey Kids! Comics! are definitely a weird decision.

  3. At the end of Superman #2 (and yes I loved the callout to Superman 4) was I the only one thrown by Barry’s red hair? He had a line right there about not being sure which Flash he is (i.e. maybe he’d become Wally?) and I’m wondering if this refers to whatever’s going on in Flash’s title?

  4. I feel like I could hear Josh’s gears turning when Jim said that Hickman was the last writer of Fantastic Four. “Hmmm,” Josh’s gears said. “The last time this claim was made, Jeff Reid rightly pointed out in the comments that both Matt Fraction and James Robinson had runs on Fantastic Four after Hickman finished up. Is it worth it to pedantically point this fact out to Jim right now?”

You’re a bigger man than I am in that your answer was, “No.” My answer would have been different.
