Pick of the Week Podcast
Show Notes
Conor Kilpatrick’s coming to us live from San Diego Comic-Con, and Josh Flanagan is… just at home. Actually, Conor’s in a hotel just adjacent to Comic-Con, and it’s early in the morning, so we make the best of it. More good books, with plenty of Pick options, and some surprising up and comers dot the list this week, with quality moving in the right direction, so it’s a good time all around. Except for Conor, trapped in a hotel room with spotty wifi, and being sent to Star Wars corner again.

It’s O-K to not like Tom King’s Batman.
It’s possible to appreciate the craft and even like the man himself and think that what he’s doing with Batman doesn’t really make sense or even that You don’t enjoy it.
It’s ok to think that and not have to offer a mantra of a disclaimer.
It seems like the review ‘community’ has to announce that they “Really Do like it” before the review, in the middle, and after listing all the reasons it doesn’t actually work for them.
Just maybe Tom King is a great guy- he has some cool ideas- Is a very good writer and this isn’t truly working for Batman.
We’ve got 100 issues of this now?
100?!
Uncle.
It’s also possible that Tom King has written great issues of Batman such as the Rooftops arc, Super Friends, the Swamp Thing issue, and issue 51. It has definitely been up and down, but the Batman and Catwoman relationship has been great and it hasn’t been terrible.
That moment Josh forgot that Old Man Hawkeye is set in the Old Man Logan universe so Hawkeye can’t die and Red Skull got killed by Wolverine. I would say that and Batman #51 were the best comics in a not so great week.
Didn’t Bruce Wayne publicly fund an international contingent of Batmen for a while? A Batman Incorporated, if you will? Surely, that should have gotten him dismissed from jury duty on a case involving Batman.
Do you guys ever hang out in Star TREK Corner?
I think there is a tendency for comic book fans to not wish to appear ignorant of influential comic books runs, but it’s so impossible to read everything. I was very happy to hear you guys read that question and bring up stuff on your “not read” list. Myself I’ve never read Preacher. I know it’s good, but my list of stuff to read is so huge. Also I’d love to go back and read the old Lee/Ditko Doctor Strange stories.
Is Josh vaping on this episode?
No…
Are you sure?
