Pick of the Week Podcast

Pick of the Week #598 – Dark Nights: Metal #1

Show Notes

If you’re looking for a theme for this episode, you’ll find one that Conor Kilpatrick, Josh Flanagan, and Ron Richards didn’t figure out. It’s the ’90s, people. From Aquaman to Mage to Astro City to the Pick of the Week, there’s a strong ’90s vibe. Plus, Conor spilled water. Which is always funny.

  1. Marvel has been ‘hinting’ pretty hard at returning classic characters- bringing back legacy.
I think that Marvel is hedging their bets with this- testing the waters to see if they really- really have to bring back the classic characters or if this weird offering will satisfy fans enough- for now at least.
If they Do plan on the return they have seemingly promised- these Generations books make little sense.

Geoff Johns did some healthy rehab for Aquaman- but his work was just too self aware – to much acknowledgement of the perceived Aquaman talks to fish guy stigma.
Maybe that was needed maybe it wasn’t but Abnett is not apologizing and telling a straight ahead nuanced badass Aquaman and it’s great.

Superhero comics are often surreal suspensions of disbelief, but they do Not have to ‘silly’

  2. Great show as always. Just an FYI, the 5k goal on Patreon promises a BBQ show once a quarter, not once a year.

  3. this might be an obvious observation but did you notice the cover is the sign of the horns?
