Booksplode #25 – The New Avengers, Vol. 1: Breakout

Show Notes

Thanks to our awesome Patrons, we’re proud to present another Booksplode!

What’s a Booksplode? It’s a bi-monthly special edition show in which we take a look at a single graphic novel or collected edition, something we really just don’t have time to do on the regular show.

This month, Josh Flanagan and Conor Kilpatrick take a look at The New Avengers, Vol. 1: Breakout by Brian Michael Bendis, David Finch, Danny Miki, Mark Morales, Allen Martinez, Vinktor Olazaba, Frank D’Armata, Albert Deschesne, and Richard Starkings!

  1. New Avengers #1 was actually one of the first two comics I ever bought as a fresh, 16 year old comic reader. Funny things happen when you’re a fledgling essentially raised on Bendis’ Marvel Era. In mind my Luke Cage is a quintessential Avenger and I’m convinced that at any point a character could be revealed to be a Skrull.

  2. Great podcast.

Today in TMI theater… The master bathroom in my house has a cabinet bookshelf above the toilet. It has necessities but also a collection of all the trades and singles that I can pick up any day of the week and ready for 5-10 minutes and enjoy. (Yes, singles. I have Sinestro Corps War and it’s 50/50 trades singles).

I probably read Breakout a couple times a year. I’ve been in this house since 2006. It’s been in that bathroom for 11 years.

And for the record, vol 3 “Secrets & Lies” is even better.

This was a really fun reread and fun to hear you two talk about it. Thanks for picking it.
