  1. Thanks so much, gentlemen.  Always a great part of my week.

  2. Couples Retreat reviews is a fantastic theme.  Thanks for posting this early, there’s a damn near hurricane there, and this is keeping me enertained in this lonely, lonely comic book store.

  3. Also, Paul wins for best close of an iFanboy show.

I don’t want him to replace any of The Big Three, but could he be your back matter on every show?

  4. agreed with most opinions except Brightest Day, too much shit going on. I sometimes find myself skipping the Hawkman/Hawkgirl and the Firestorm stuff. Those balloons might as well say "Mishy mashy mishy mashy, boop poop its own poop, oh lawd tehy are prying into our past lives". The Aquaman stuff is dope though. The Martian Manhunter stuff started off with me not knowing what the hell was going on, to not really caring about old women.

I’m not a Marvel dude at all but The Avengers are killing it right now, super fun reads.

  5. as far as original superhero movies go i would put robocop up there as well as hancock. im not a will smith fan at all but i was surprised how it captured the superhero as modern myth not just emotionally stunted, spandex clad adults on a roid rage.

  6. what has happened to M night shymalon??????? signs and sixth sense and my favorite

  7. Do you think Aniz will mention his win on the MTV Awards tonight or was it prerecorded?

  8. @Parker: Since Aziz Ansari didn’t win anything, I doubt it.

  9. Was Darkman an original movie concept?

was that even a good movie. it’s been a while

  10. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

Darkman is an original, yep. Not sure of the quality.

Still going with Dead Poets’ Society.

  11. oh, my favourite non-comic superhero movie is Weekend at Bernie’s 2 than

  12. Not down with the disrespect of Marky Mark.

    Boogie Nights

    Three Kings

and the single most important film of the 2000’s: Rock Star

Not down with the disrespect at all.

  13. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

Josh’s Sir Ian McKellen sounds like NPH’s maniacal villain laugh from Doctor Horrible.

  14. No Thanos Imperative?

Great start to my week always.

  15. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

I enjoyed Thanos Imperative quite a bit. We did talk about it last week though.

  16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixY02QaZfbA

    That’s vid for anyone curious.

I loved Darkman with all it’s flaws and awesomeness. Sam Raimi directed that eh.

  17. @Conor damn my poor reading skills

  18. Josh Casey?  did they have a battle so epic that they were merged into one ultimate being?

  19. oh sure, change it so my joke is no longer effective.

  20. Avatar photo Jeff Reid (@JeffRReid) says:

Great ep, as usual. I enjoyed the moment as it dawned on both Josh and Conor what Paul was up to with his movie pairings. Made me laugh.

And I’m glad to hear the Conor and Paul are enjoying BRIGHTEST DAY so very much. I’ve only read issues 0 – 2 (I’m a DCBS subscriber, you see) and I’m very much enjoying it as well. Anecdotally, I’ve heard of a number of people dropping the series, but it’s exactly what I’m looking for in this type of book. I’m all for it.

Oh, and it’s killing me to have to wait for the BATMAN BEYOND mini to come out, since I decided to wait for the trade on that series. I want to run out to the stores and grab that annual. Looks like I’ll have to wait a year on this one.

  21. Orgasmo is the best superhero movie not based on a comic book.

    Orgasmo Trailer

  22. @Jeff: Ans what was it that Paul was up to with his movie bit, ’cause i didn’t get all of it…

  23. Right on, guys. Great episode. Thanks for reading my review of Sweet Tooth #10!

  24. Avatar photo Jeff Reid (@JeffRReid) says:

@JJ: Seemed to me that Paul picked films with the most tenuous connection possible to the comics they were paired with. Some felt like downright non-sequiturs. I assume that Josh and Conor thought that the pairings would done by theme or major plot point. I know that’s what I thought. But Paul just did his own thing. Like I said, made me laugh.

  25. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

    "Tenuous," he says…

  26. @Conor, mucho points for the "Sky High" recommendation. The whole family loves it.  I talk about my daughter on this site a lot, but rarely mention my wife.  My wife loves this movie.  She routinely recommends it to others.  We all love it.

    Favorite quote from the movie:
"Did I mention she’s not just her twin, but her *evil* twin?"

    Runner-up favorite quote:
"It seems evil has struck our morning commute…"

    Best Character Name:
"Warren Peace" (say it outloud to get the joke)

  27. Still not down with the disrespect of Marky Mark.

So I’m rocking some MM & The Funky Bunch, but the street level aggression of the songs and the white boy angst is starting to make me feel reckless.

  28. thanks for explaining the joke fellas

  29. Noooooo!!!! Josh don’t watch The Happening! It’s 2 hours of Mark Walhberg saying, "It’s happening!" and "What’s happening". Maybe youtube it for a laugh.

  30. Somebody is getting a Best of Ian Mckellen DVD box set for his birthday…

  31. What was that Ian McKellan ‘impersonation’ all about? Has he even played an American-accented Father Abraham?

I’ve already packed in Brightest Day, too many reheated plotlines and stupid gore. And seeing an OMAC in Generation Lost was enough to have me running to the hills.

I wasn’t even remotely tempted to pick up Avengers Prime – the idea of a five-part series over ten months to get us to the comics we’re already reading isn’t enticing.

If you like this comment you might enjoy The Phantom Tollbooth.

  32. @Mart: Entertainment?

  33. @Conor – are you responding to my first point? If so, well, I tend to assume there’s a link between the opening music/whatever and the ep, as we had last week. Maybe I missed the ‘Selina’ McKellan talk!

  34. @Mart: No link. Sometimes there is, sometimes there isn’t.

  35. That’s so random. Can’t cope!

But could someone do me an Ann B Davis?

  36. I loved "Soon I Will Be Invincible" and will second Conor’s recommendation. Completely forgot about it until that guy’s question came up and Conor brilliantly reminded me. Might re-read it soon.

Incidently, I watched that CGC video on YouTube for the second time just yesterday on a whim. For the record, I thought it was great.

  37. I demand more Paul on the podcasts!!!

  38. @Josh- listened to the PoW podcast & you are forgiven. Your reasons for Hawkeye & Mockingbird not Pick are sound.  Like many TV series, we had a lot to set up in this "pilot" as you noted, and the next few issue dive deeper into the seeds planted and all of the relationships introduced (including the support staff).  These will continue to develop- it’s a roller coaster of a comic.

Thanks everyone for the love (those of you who did, which seems to be the majority around the net– crazy humbling and amazing).  Next issue features a lot more delving into the characters pasts & present, mysteries deepen, why are these baddies back, what’s going on with Bobbi, and is more like a Hitchcock movie than anything.  Nail-biter!

Just turned in plans for 18 issues, so looks like we’re around to stay- those on the fence, fear not, doesn’t look like we’re going away & that’s in great thanks to you!

Oh, and pleased to remind everyone that the series is $2.99 from issue 2 on.

    Thanks again!
    Jim

  39. @Jim: I like it when creators come down here in fan-land.

    It’s just cool.

    🙂

  40. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

@Jim – I am definitely on board. Keep up the good work.

  41. You guys have got to read Fortress of Solitude by Jonathan Lethem.  It is largely about growing up in New York, but there is a power ring.  It is one of my favorite novels and brings in a superhero component into a story about growing up in a hard world.

  42. A worthwhile episode for Paul’s movie picks and introducing me to Ida Maria. She’s pretty great.

  43. @ifancrew: LMFAO! Thank YOU for that video. I totally forgot about it! XD!!!!!!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixY02QaZfbA

I think I’m going to slab my copy of Sentry: The Fallen Sun, just to video tape its destruction for the world to see.

  44. @Manga: Yeah, that would not at all be as ridiculous a thing to do as the people you wish to mock do.

  45. @JumpingJupiter: The video will make a great christmas gift to all my friends here at ifanboy. You’re welcome? 8D

  46. oh yeahhh i forgot "unbreakable" by m nkight is the best non comic book superhero movie

  47. I thought Unbreakable was laughingly terrible in quite a few sections.

I only dig on The Sixth Sense.

  48. i wouldnt call six sense a superhero movie tho. i liked unbreakable because it broke down the superhero mythos in a very real way even more than any comics has. i know people who would never watch a super hero movie who after the end realizing that they DID just watch one, had more respect for those kinds of stories

  49. Paul is hilarious in this episode. Am I the only one that listens to the same episode multiple times?

  50. 100 Bullets is a mystery/crime masterpiece. I know you guys stopped reading it halfway through though.

  51. OMG, I had never read the comments on the youtube video of the CGC destruction.  Priceless.

Great show — I always love Paul’s perspective.

  52. Also, I missed Josh’s statement that he was doing "subpar Ian McKellan" and thought it was a Paul Harvey impresision.  Don’t ask me.

  53. In response to the voice mail I have made my own super hero novel; http://www.protagonize.com/story/zedilon-the-beginning-of-the-super-hero that you may want to check out if you are looking for a new super hero that remains familiar to the super hero norm, although there is a lot of the origins

    Thanks, Marcus
