ZATANNA #4

Zatanna loves Vegas, and Vegas loves her – but should Zee be wary of the attentions of a handsome, well-connected casino owner? She can hold her own against the most ridiculous Royal Flush Gang ever assembled, and she can just about cope with her cousin Zachary’s immature antics, but she’d better watch out for the sultry fire demons that are hot on her heels!

  1. Just couldn’t bring myself to drop this book. Its been too good.

  2. this has been a ton of fun so far, and Stephane Roux’s art has been killer gorgeous.

  3. I’m loving this book so far.   It might be my replacement for Power Girl, PG has one more issue.

  4. I’ve been loving the hell out of this.  In my recent doldrums of desiring to give up superhero books, I just don’t think I’d have the heart to axe this.  As Minion says, it’s just been too good.

  5. Stephane Roux has done A-list work on this, but didn’t draw this ish, so will have to do a quick peruse of the art before buying it.

  6. I’m a fan of Dini on Zatanna.  He writes her so well and I’ve always had such a soft spot of the magical corner of the DCU.

  7. @Franktiger:  I didn’t even notice that until you mentioned it, ah dammit!

  8. Yea, Dini has been great on Streets of Gotham as well, but if don’t like the art on this one, might pass.

  9. This is definitely my favorite DCU book right now and I can easily see how people are saying that it is a good replacement for Amanda Conner’s fun Power Girl.

I especially love the relatively realistic portrayal of the San Francisco setting. I can totally picture Zatanna’s mystic Victorian manor nestled among the city’s rolling hills and it’s not like every scene has to take place right in front of the Golden Gate Bridge.

@Franktiger & TexasZombie99: Based on this preview, I think we will be in good hands until Stephane Roux hopefully eventually comes back.

Plus Yanick (Bulleteer!) Paquette is going to draw #6 so I am very excited for that!

  10. Ooh, didn’t realize there are previews on the DCU blogs, looks good, a more definite purchase at this point.

  11. whoa, Yanick Paquette would be awesome on this.

  12. I’ve enjoyed every issue of the series thus far.  Nothing over the top, just all around good book.

  13. I would say this issue was average. I have no feelings one way or the other.

  14. Ended up not getting it, art looks better when its digitalized for some reason, didn’t look as great on paper than on the previews, and that’s the real litmus test for my $3.99 or whatever.

  15. I enjoyed this issue and I’m looking forward to #5 but the art wasn’t as great as in previous issues. It wasn’t bad, just wasn’t as good as Roux’s art.

  16. I would like if the writer put in a little less fluff, the ending was the only interesting exhange in the whole issue. i still like zatanna as a main character though. for now.

  17. Roux was greatly missed.  This book is a lot of fun.  I’m giving Dini a chance to build this world.

Also as a side note, am I the only one who misses Z’s other uniform?  1984ZatannaPostcardbyGeorgePrez.jpg

I think I just like that costume better b/c it’s the one she was wearing when I first met her.

  18. There is no real flaws in this issue. Dini is writing a solid story for an often over looked charachter in DC. I do love her as a more on call for the JL charachter and I hope an ongoing does not take that aspect of her away. Again, a solid issue, but just did not have that WOW moment to rate it a solid 5.

  19. That art was barely above mediocre.  I actually think Dini wanted the villains to look like the Rat Pack, but the artist couldn’t even get close to delivering (what a different issue if she was fighting Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and Sammy Davis Jr.!).  Her costume was distracting not because it was sexy but because it was kind of ugly and vulgar in the hands of Hardin.  But Dini’s writing is good enough that I’m not going anwhere…can’t wait to see how the flaming tongue cliffhanger is resolved.
