WONDER WOMAN #3

Hippolyta, the queen of the Amazons, has kept a secret from her daughter all her life – and when it’s revealed, Wonder Woman’s life will shatter like brittle clay.

The only one more shocked than Diana by this revelation? Bloodthirsty Hera herself – so why is her sinister daughter, Strife, so eager for the truth to be told?

  1. Dear Azzarello, Chiang and the other Wonder Woman creative team members- Thanks for an awesome story so far! Can’t wait for this issue!

  2. Great cover!

  3. Super excited for this. And thanks from me for the whole creative team too. I want more!!

  4. I’ve been loving this series. Very happy with it.

  5. This series and Batwoman are vying for my favorite of the New 52. WW has slightly better writing. Batwoman has slightly better art. Batwoman by a nose, but that could change if the mythology gets a little bit more awesome in WW #3.

  6. Best unexpected series for me to love out of the relaunch

  7. If Azzarello and Chiang can keep this up they might be one of the Wonder Woman creative teams ever.

  8. it’s not bad or anything, but the story isn’t really staying with me… this is probably the make or break issue for my list.

  9. Seeing as this is my first Wonder Woman series im reading, I could not have asked for a better story. Thank you Azz and Cliff.

  10. Oddly enough, this is probably my favorite book coming out of the new 52…right after Animal Man, of course.

  11. Chiang isn’t listed in the February solicit except as cover artist. Hope its just a short break.

  12. I can’t believe people are actually looking forward to and talking about WW.

  13. I love the simple art and the somewhat complex story. The two together are great and am looking forward to reading more!

  14. If this is as good as #2 I’ll be more than happy.

  15. Are you f’ing kidding me?! I’m so glad I stuck with this. It’s really turning out to be a fantastic read.

  16. Holy lazers this was good! Azz has a knack for dialog!

  17. I haven’t read it yet, going to read it at a leisurely pace after I get to work, but I’m looking forward to this even more than Batman. Thats saying something.

  18. The month between issue releases really took it out of me. I could have used a recap page here to remember how we left off. Also, I was confused about the flashback that was unlabeled at the beginning.

  19. So *spoilers* the reveal in this issue has a HUGE impact on Hypolitta’s character and could have deep repercussions on Diana’s story!

  20. This is becoming one of my top 5 books

  21. Once again I am blindsided by my POW. I did not expect the level of quality and emotion brough to an issue that was, literally, just people reacting to a secret. That last page has done more to define Diana’s (sorry, Wonder Woman’s) character to me than anything I’ve ever read.

Well done, fellows. Keep it up.

  22. Man but this was a fantastic read! This issue in particular reminded me so strongly of various Greek tragedies. I’m loving this series so much! Here’s hoping Azz and Chiang enjoy a long run on this title!

  23. Glad to hear this is good. Sticking with it through the first arc.

  24. Well I guess i’m going to be the odd man out here but I did not enjoy this. Art was good and the writing style seemed fine to but I had the same problem with this as I did the last 2 issues. I just DONT care about the story or any of the characters and dont feel like it’s written in a way to make new readers have any reason to care either. To me I feel like the whole time i’m reading a high school greek mythology book. It’s becoming obvious that this may be a personal taste problem. Oh well I gave it till issue 3. Glad others are enjoying it but for me this is a DROP

    • This is one of those books where I can absolutely understand why someone wouldn’t be into it. It’s a very strange tone, and it’s not really taking much time to set up character motivations and backgrounds. It’s more just world-building as we speed along.

  25. love this book.
my only criticism: her last line in the book. she should have left it at ‘dont call me diana or clay’. it seemed cheezy to say call me wonder woman, they should have allowed us to come to that conclusion on our own with the implication, what with the title of the book and all. it almost killed the illusion for me. glad it was at the end of the book.
this is, however, a minor grievance and besides, who the fuck am i? a pitiful anonymous.
    this book rocks. 5stars

    • I see what you mean, that line didn’t have that effect on me because that seed was planted in issue #1 but I get your drift.

I had the same feeling in Catwoman though when she says a line which describes exactly how she escapes her binds while tied to a chair. The artwork was descriptive enough without having to point it out, it came across cheesy.

Generally, I’m like you, I prefer drawing the conclusion myself as a reader.

    • I felt the same way about the last line. It didn’t give me a sour taste, because I get why you’d have her say that line at that moment. However, given Azzarello’s strengths with dialogue, that line – as iconic as it is – felt clunky in my head.

I think I would have preferred something like “Don’t call me Diana or Clay…[page turn]….I know who I am.”

But like we’ve said, no big deal.

    • I loved the last line. It was a fantastic summation of her transformation over the last three issues.

    • @jnewcomb
its more fun that way, right?!

      @ken
see, to me, it seems like given all the revelations at once would leave her, at the very least, a little unsure of who she is.
zeus is her daddy, not only did her mother know of course but her ‘sisters’ knew too.
i think i would have preferred “dont call me diana or clay…not anymore…[page turn]….that person is a lie”

    • on a side note, i really love the revelation that she is in fact a demi-god. it really puts her on par with superman, who, she should be just as strong as

    • Yeah, those lines… really love the “don’t call me clay.” Dialogue, as a whole, in these 3 issues has been a step above the “comic book norm.”

  26. Another great issue. This is one my favorites of the new 52

  27. I LOVE Wonder Woman and really enjoyed George Perez’s take on her post-crisis. I wasn’t expecting much from this relaunch, but this Wonder Woman has consistently been my favorite book each month hands down! I even like the changes made to her origin. I was very worried with Brian Azz taking over writing as I haven’t enjoyed his previous work that I’ve read, but he is really hitting WW out of the park. I hope he continues on this title for quite some time.

  28. “…We now go to Tom Johnson with Local 5 Action News…Tom, what do you have for us?…”

Thanks Jill,…I’m here with Kmanifesto, a comic book reader and he claims to have earth-shattering news as it relates to the world of comics. Mister. Kmanifesto, what is this “earth-shattering’ news?

Holy crap…I’m actually reading AND loving Wonder Woman!

Tom gives Kmanifesto a blank stare and then turns back to the camera.

“…For Local 5 Action News, I’m Tom Johnson…back to you Jill”

  29. This was a a 3 out of 5 for me but it was a very strong issue that introduced us to the new [and dare I say improved] Wonder Woman. So yeah, this issue got a 3/5 from me, but I expect it to lead to many 4s and 5s in the near future.

  30. Fantastic! Chiang and Azzarello are killing this.

  31. Finally got around to reading all three issues. This book is great, love the artwork. Looking forward to reading more, I wonder if Steve Trevor will play a role in things to come, also the fanboy in me really hopes Etta Candy will show up.
