  1. is the ultimatum tie ins worth getting. Do they add on to the ultimatum story or go a different path

  2. I’m not reading the main Ultimatum book, but there was definitely a lot going on in this issue. You see Magneto’s reactions to things, and the reactions of militant humans in reaction to Magneto’s actions and to mutants in general. With that said, this was a horrendously bad issue. Characterizations were all over the place, characters were treated like a four-year-old treats action figures whose names he barely knows. The dialogue was really awful.

  3. So far, none of the Ultimate books (USM,UXM,UFF) have any impact on the Ultimatum storyline. With both Ultimate X-men and Ultimate Fantastic Four having one issue left, these books are just limping in towards the finish line.

  4. This issue made me feel like I missed an issue….

  5. @supertrackmonkey  well in UFF’s last issue they did save sue so that’s something

  6. this just might be the worst issue of the series.  if it wasnt ending next issue, i might actually consider dropping it, despite the fact that i read every Ultimate title (including that Ultimate Adventure from waaay back during the whole U-Decide stunt).  i would even go so far as to say that this has been the weakest issue in the entire Ultimate line.  I dont know how much of this is Coliete not knowing how to write and/ or pace a comic book, and how much of it is editorial saying he needs to fits all of his ideas into a certain amount of issues.  Despite alot of people looking down on it, ive really enjoyed Ultimate X-Men since the begining.  I absolutely love the "Tommorrow People" story line and the Weapon X story line, and even the Return of the King story line.  the bendis sutff was strong (although his first story reads more like a Ult. Spidey/ Wolverine team-up for a few issues), and i think the all time best run on this book was BKV’s.  When he was writing it, it was one of my favorite books to read, and he managed to recapture the spirit of Millar’s run but also make it his own.  hell, the Kirkman stuff started out really strong, and despite kinda floundering towards the end, he was brining in new ideas (shi’ar as a scientology like cult was brilliant) and he did keep the books exciting.  I really wish the Loeb Crew (Loeb, Coliete, Pokanski) werent just handed these books like they were. (Although Pokanski hasnt been doing a terrible job on UFF, especially compared to Mike Carey’s last story)  The entire Ultimate line needs to be put back into the hands of top notch creators who know how to use this world, like Bendis, Millar, BKV, and Ellis.  those guys GOT this universe in a way that the Loeb crew is failing miserably with.

Man, i just wish this book was soooo much better.  the Ultimate Universe was once refered to as the "Gold Standard" at marvel.  what the hell happened?

  7. Mikeandzod 21 – that was brilliant.  I couldn’t possibly agree with you more from the start to the finish.  I am a huge Ultimate Fan, I am collecting UFF now in trades (I am up to the 5th) and I have never read FF at any other time in my life.  I just like the Ulitmate Universe so much that I am trying to make sure I have a full collection.  That said, this is possibly the worst single issue of any comic I have ever read.  Three panel garfield comics tell a more coherant story than Coliet.

I think the Ultimatum story is a good story, I think that it is however being poorly executed.  So I guess I won’t blame Jeff Leob or whoever else had the ideas for this.  It is a good idea, take out a couple of regular books, that’s fine, run 1 or two that really give readers a handle on the universe.  I like that.  That’s what G.I. joe does and hopefully will do well in their reboot with IDW.

  8. @yyzKyle   thank you for calling me brilliant, i spend a long time stewing over this disertation.  UFF kinda became the red headed bastard step child of the Ultimate Universe after  Ellis’ run.  if you want to read some really kick ass FF, check out the Mark Waid/ Mike Weringo run.  that is brilliant stuff.  I do like that Ultimatum feels like its bringing the Ultimate U back around to where it started when it was just UXM and USP.  and man, i like Loeb.  the stuff he was doing, like, six years ago was great.  Daredevil: Yellow and Batman: Dark Victory are easily some of my favorite stories EVER, but the last few years he’s just been tooling around, turning out contrived plots and stories.  its very very sad.
