JDC12/19/10NoRead Review

  1. Bah, I pre-ordered this from Amazon and they aren’t delivering it until the end of this month.  I’d cancel that order but I’d about guarantee my shop won’t have this.

  2. I read someone tweet that they thought this was going to be in digest form or, at least, be slightly smaller than a normal trade. Can anyone else confirm this? I hope to see Samnee’s art in its regular comic size.

  3. @JeffR  That’s correct. It’s 9″ x 6″. Marvel does that with the books that they try to reach non-traditional comic readers.

  4. @conor  That’s disappointing. But, at least I know it now and won’t be crushed when I get the thing in the mail.

  5. @Conor: That’s very disappointing to hear, though I don’t disagree with your premise.  Personally, I want a full-sized trade for Samnee’s art.  That said, I think Marvel tried to do the same thing (trying to reach a non-traditional market) with the Spider-woman dvd-trade combo.  Marvel did finally put out a normal-sized Spider-Woman trade later, after many months.  Maybe Marvel will eventually do that with Thor The Might Avenger as well, but I won’t bold my breath.

I suspect this will hurt trade sales, which is unfortunate because I was hopeful that strong trade sales might help the chances of seeing the 12 issue arc completed.   While I don’t mind digests, I know some people who do.  As of right now, I suspect this will remain a 8 issue run. 🙁

  6. I knew they were going to make thor the mighty avenger a digest

  7. In my opinion, it’s was the best thor book going on and they should have never cancelled it

  8. Will read through these on Marvel Digital when they are released

  9. Digest is cheaper than regular size right? If so, that’s fine.

  10. Wow, if this is indeed digest-sized I will not be getting this trade afterall and will go back and see if I can find the individual issues at my comic shops.  I was also sort of hoping they would have put all of the issues in a single trade since it is only supposed to be 8 (I’ve heard) issues in totality.  I rarely “trade wait” but I regretfully did on this one.

  11. I should have known better after seeing the “GN TP” because somehow this is a “graphic novel.”  I am not a fan of the digest-sized volumes if the original source was larger.  I’ll pick up the Vertigo Crime books and I’m happy with that because they were originally designed at that size but I don’t like my comics with gorgeous art to be downsized into wee little volumes, haha.

  12. Ah, that’s a shame that it’s smaller then normal. Then again, if it moves the units, I can’t complain. I wish Amazon was shipping it this week though.

  13. Ahhh….I don’t like if they pad out those collections with old stuff.

  14. I’ll go ahead and bet that, if this sells well enough, we’ll get a standard size trade or hardcover down the line, kinda like what they did with Runaways.

  15. Can’t stand the digest sized books. Bought the first three Runaways arcs and re-bought the big HC soon after. Perhaps looking for back-issues is the way to go?

  16. My folks ordered me this for Christmas. Hope it arrives in time; got the issues anyway. So sad this has been cancelled, though; hopefully, Samnee will get a series like Daredevil or a Captain America mini after this. The man’s talent is limitless.

  17. @conor  Which is why I finally decided to get the individual issues. I hate the digest sized or whatever they call them.
Turns out the mothly issues are better and waiting for them in a less than standard trade size is unwarrented and, honestly, insulting to a book this good.

  18. I just got an email from Amazon – it’s being shipped earlier then expected! Hooray!

  19. Woot!  Amazon got it’s shit together and it just shipped this for me.  That end of December stuff was BS.
