  1. I’ll admit, i was a bit shocked at how much i liked the preview for this, Starlin really was the Hickman of his time:)

  2. I mostly enjoyed Cornell’s first arc on this title, but dropped it after he left. Starlin coming on board may be enough to motivate me to give it a try again. I admit that it’s been awhile since Starlin wowed me, but still, I’m curious. This’ll be a flip through the first pages/gut decision on Wednesday.

  3. Hooray, Jim Starlin!!!

    • I’m very curious to see what Starlin does here. I’m a huge fan of Stormwatch/Authority from Warren Ellis’ run onward but the New 52 reboot has left me with a bad taste in my mouth regarding DC”s handling of the WS characters. I will definitely be giving this a shot.

  4. Here we go, Jim Starlin, baby! Bring it on!

    • I was a little apprehensive, but the end of Milligan’s run just petered out. I am totally ready for some new blood on this book.

And I liked the Weird way back when I read his mini-series co-starring my beloved Guy Gardner Justice League, so it’s kinda cool to see he will be in this.

  5. A fun weird comic. I didn’t really love the art but there was a good chunk of story, nice to see cute old school Apollo & Midnighter, and The Weird was…awesome:) and, hay, a Lobo untouched by Liefeld can’t hurt either.

    • This issue was awesome. I agree that the art wasn’t as good as it could have been, but having just re-read Volume One of Ellis’ run last week, I can say that this is good enough. The story was great though. I Ioved the new characters, and it’s so nice to see Midnight and Apollo back in their old costumes and their relationship. The Weird was…well, very strange, but I like his inclusion. I’m hoping that Storm Control will turn out to be the New 52 version of Henry Bendix. Also, THE MAIN MAN!

  6. OK. Starlin started big. Three pages in and he REBOOTS THE UNIVERSE!?

This is what I like about Starlin as a writer, he has big ideas, but he also has the balls to pull them off.

This issue had the same feel as the first ‘Fantastic Four’ issue or the beginning of Claremont’s classic X-Men run, a new team pulled together from the farthest corners of the world and just chucked together. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

The Weird could well be a breakout character from this. Oh, and Midnighter’s original costume is back, that makes me happy.

Overall, thoroughly enjoyed this book, especially the old school ‘psych-fi’ approach it took. Not crazy about the art, but definitely onboard for the next couple of months to see where this is going. Lots of fun.

    • That should have said “a new team pulled from the farthest corners of the world and just chucked into the fray”. My bad.

    • I agree, it was pretty damn fun. Lots of good stuff.

    • I liked ‘The Weird’. He stood out for me. Who’d you like?

    • As far as the team goes, the Weird stood out as the most interesting character followed by Apollo and Midnighter. BUT, the character that got my blood pumping is Lobo. Huge fan of the character, but seldom does a writer do him justice. Starlin created one of my favorite characters of all time: Thanos. So if Lobo gets just a fraction of that treatment, I will be a very happy main man. 😀

    • I never really read Lobo, I knew he was a big deal and a fan-favorite, but he just didn’t feature in most of the comics I bought growing up. I look forward to finding out more about him. Is this his first ‘New 52’ appearance?

    • No. Rob Liefield featured Lobo in his Deathstroke run.

    • Prime example of a writer not doing him justice.

  7. I didn’t realize Starlin was coming to this title. I’ll have to go pick up a copy tomorrow.
