  1. Most underrated marvel book out there.

  2. No Stegman, eh? Well, I guess we’d better get used to it. I, for one, will stick around after the change. Yost has yet to drop the ball on this one.

    • I’m gone stick around too. Definitely bummed on Stegman leaving, but I think Yost is creating something unique here. Almost in the vein of Remender’s (and now Bunn’s) Venom, if they can keep this up they’ll have something special on their hands.

    • I thought he was on through #6. At least, I thought that’s what they said at the Marvel Next Big Thing panel at C2E2. Then it was switching over to Pham on art.

  3. Shame Stegman is no longer on this book, he’d done some stellar stuff in the first four issues. Still, Yost is writing some really good stuff here, so I’m definitely sticking by it.

  4. This was good and I like seeing a whole story in one issue, but this was not as cool as the rest of the series has been

  5. Just fun, exciting comics. A bit fomulaic, to be sure, but fun nonetheless.

  6. Avatar photo tripleneck (@tripleneck) says:

This issue really suffers from a lack of Ryan Stegman on art. Even the Assassins story has been put on hold for a pretty threadbare plot concerning a ticking time bomb. Looks like the good times are over for me on this title since Stegman has been promoted to a higher profile assigment and is just doing the covers on SS from now on.

  7. Ultimates Nick Fury was in this… pisses me off.

  8. 1- I actually really enjoyed the art in this book. I think the style fit the tone of the book well, I just wish they would tone down the brightness a bit. I like the slimmer, less bulky scarlet.
2-What the hell is up with Fury?!? I can’t understand a costume change for Hawkeye, but a skin color change? That’s crazy! This book is not in the ultimate line so this had to be a mistake on the artist’s part, but then how did the editor’s miss that? I just don’t understand. Are they completely replacing old Nick Fury?

    • I also enjoyed the art quite a bit. The guy’s no Stegman, but the layouts were dynamic, the action was strong and the acting was compelling. Good stuff.

  9. @Chocobavits & Patriotsun: That’s not Ultimate Nick Fury and it wasn’t a mistake by the artist, that’s Nick Fury Jr.:

  10. I love the fact that scarlet spider wears a seatbelt while riding in cars!

    • Safety first. lol… I like the Pete line and him not loving that people call him the Scarlet Spi…. (never mind)

  11. When did Daisy Johnson start running SHIELD? I thought Steve was still in charge.

  12. Uh, ya… why is ultimate nick fury in this? the hell?

  13. Ironically the time they decide to move Ultimate Nick Fury to the 616 is precisely when he jumps the shark in the Movieverse.

  14. Scarlet Spider #5 was very good; I am enjoying what Christopher Yost is doing with the characters. I was just too upset to fully take it in. The fact that Ryan Stegman is gone from the title bothers me to no end… he was the pillar of this series.

And I hated the Nick Fury/Coulson appearance. Absolutely unnecessary.

  15. Hell of a good new title by Marvel!! The ending was so realistic if you think about it, right? I would have ripped the wires out like that since I was on top of the damn bomb anyway and either way i could have been done!! Just a cool way to give this some humor however; on a very sadistic wave length!! Such an enjoyable title and this is probably one of the coolest Spidermen I have ever read and I like him, go Kaine Park go!!
