The X-Men are hot on the trail of Cable and Hope and meet Bastion’s forces head-on, in the form of Bastion’s capo William Stryker and his Purifier army. Stryker’s forces score one casualty early, but who wins the battle? At the same time the New Mutants are hitting Bastion’s second-in-command, Cameron Hodge. 1. If this can take the awesomeness that was New Mutants #11, and combine it with the awesomenesses that were the SC one shot and last week’s Uncanny, I think I’ll be needing new pants Wednesday night.

  2. Not a fan of Zeb Wells, but I’ll give this book a shot because the crossover has been pretty strong so far.

  3. This rules so far. First ish of new mutants I’ve picked up. Hope it’s good!

  4. I look forward to chapter 4 of this crossover…not this one though. My only experiance with New Mutants was during the Necrosha tie-in that was awful

  5. haven’t read all the issues of this run, but the ones I have read have been pretty solid

  6. I’m digging Zeb Wells.  He wrote my favorite arc when Spidey was in the 1st year of BND, and I think he’s nailed the characterizations in this book.  I’d assume its not easy to make Claremont-era New Mutants happy

  7. I thought Illyana would die in X-Factor #26 but maybe it will happen here.

  8. @alanrob – why’s that?

  9. @ cutty I love zeb Wells… that arc of Spiderman with bachalo was awesome.

loved everything so far with this crossover and with him up to bat now I couldn’t be happier!

  10. Even though it looks like Illyana died in the preview pages, the brief desciption on Second Coming Hellbound says,"Magik is gravely injured in battle, she instinctively flees to the sanctuary of Limbo…"

  11. The first two issues of this have been almost identical to MC. Every X-Man on the planet chasing after Cable and Hope because they want to help and protect them. Seen this already. Hopefully this issue will get into some actual story.

  12. So far the crossover has snagged my attention.  The first two issues were strong.  Lets hope they can keep going.

  13. Here is a challenge for the end of Second Coming. Hide the title of all 12 issues, mix them in a pile, and try to tell what cover corresponds to what title and what part of the story. Extra credit: Identity the three color tones Adi Granov uses on every cover I have ever seen him do. Snarkiness aside, Zeb hasn’t quite pulled it all together for me. Some of the characters he has down (Sam and Roberto) some not (Dani, Amara). Some issues have been great, while others is the same arc have been terrible. It feels like he his finding his feet, but much too slowly for my tastes. I imagine 3 crossover issues are not going to be the pace he finally fins his New Mutants voice.

  14. i’m so excited Loved Messiah CompleX and I’m digging this so far I’m really excited to see what Hope as a character becomes and people are talking about Zeb Wells but since when does the actual writer of a book have anything to do with what happens in his book during a cross over lol

  15. @cutty   Just because of the Hellbound mini and her inclusion in the teaser art for X-Factor #26.

But I guess I’m wrong according to Previews (boo). I try not to read previews too much because I do like to be surprisedand enjoy the speculation. Especially when I plan to buy the book no matter what the details of a particular issue might be.

(btw – I am in no way bitching about spoilers on ifanboy or in the comments from other members, they are part of what make this community fuckin’ badass!)

  16. Love the cover except for the fact there are no New Mutants on it.

  17. Wow… i came in with such high expectations and was extremely let down. Worst art so far in the series and easily the worst written. i read it very quickly which could have lead to me missing some key points (a re read will be done) but very poor in my opinion. 2/5

  18. I thought this was a pretty good action issue. I just didnt like that they find Cable and Hope only to lose them again.

  19. Surprisingly, I didn’t hate this.

  20. This was fun.

  21. Apparently there’s some shit going down with Rogue.  I’m curious to see how Pierce fits in.

Have we had any other clues on this yet?

  22. @cutty- I don’t think so, but I can’t wait for next week to read Carey’s take on this!

  23. I took it to mean that Hope was somehow projecting her thoughts on to Rogue. Could be wrong, since I don’t know that Hope’s powers have actually been revealed yet. But either way, I don’t think it has to do with Pierce just yet. I think Pierce’s evil smile is just supposed to indicate that he isn’t as helpless in those restraints as Danger and Rogue think he is. Quite possible they’ll all break out soon and attack the X-Men from within.

  24. And by "quite possible" I mean it’s certainly going to happen.

  25. This was kind of awesome.

Though I’m pretty sure I know who is going to die in X-Force, and why… Stop reading if you don’t like theories…. I’m thinking that since they’re tracking Cable and Hope via the techno-organic virus, he’s going to off himself.

  26. This was all right.  Hodge turning into his old machine-self was pretty badass though.

  27. @drake – I think Rogue is compromised as that panel came immediately after (I think) Cable was wondering how they were being tracked.  That’s how I read it at least, Rogue didn’t seem like she knew what she was saying.

  28. This was exactly what I want from a tie-in issue of a series that I don’t normally read.  I wasn’t looking for in-depth characterization or massive game changing revelations about the team.  I was looking to see a good fight scene continued from Uncanny last week.  This issue delivered exactly that.

  29. @cutty – agreed.  I think something is definitely up with Rogue.

  30. I’m totally with drake on this. I can’t wait for next week and I don’t care that its Land drawing it. Rogue and Hope(and hopefully Pierce) written by Carey’s going to be awesome to read.

  31. @cutty & @rockingeek-After reading it again, I think Pierce may be involved. I forgot that Danger mentions something about his brain being more active right before Rogue says that line. But that’s not how Cable and Hope were being tracked. Bastion mentioned last chapter that he is tracking them through the virus that Cable has.

What I love about this and Messiah Complex is that we don’t have to wait long for the next issue to find out what happens. Just one week 🙂

  32. This issue was crazy fun – from the weaponised spell to spider-Hodge on the warpath.

And this is the first time I’ve been exposed to Ibraim Roberson’s art, absolutely gorgeous to look at.  Why can’t we have him in Uncanny instead of Land?

  33. @drake and cutty: I think Pierce s going to be able to take somekind of control over Danger??? I don’t think he as anything to do with Rogue having a "link" with Hope??? But I could be wrong. I can’t wait for next week.

  34. Pierce is definately a plant.  Bastion re-animated him with the TO virus in the early X-Force issues, and it looks like Bastion is in control of all things TO

  35. Ah, didn’t know how Pierce came back. Things make a bit more sense now.

  36. I am loving second coming so far.

  37. I know I’ve read other issues by Roberson, but with this one, I am totally in love with his style.  very clear, very fluid storytelling.  the fun just keeps coming with this story.

  38. Super fun. But I am concerned that this is going to be 12 issues chasing after Hope and Cable. We did that in Messiah Complex. Then we did that in Cable where Bishop did the chasing. Worse, it seemed very artificial that Cable would ditch the X-men just when they found them. Hello, Cable, they are the whole reason you went into the future with Hope in the first place. Please join up and move the frigging story to phase II (whatever that might be). I give you three more issues of running, but by Chapter 7, I will begin to become peeved.
