MEN OF WAR #3

Sometimes even the best intel isn’t good enough. Rock and his men find themselves surrounded by dozens of guerrilla fighters when their last clip runs out – but bullets might not be their only weapon.

Also: Ice and Tracker come face-to-face with a family of human shields. Can they clear the area in time for an incoming evac without harming innocents?

  1. Easily my break out hit of the new 52. Such a great concept, and solid execution.

  2. this is it. last pull before i make a decision on this book and I don’t think it’s gonna make the cut

  3. I think I was ‘in love with the idea’ of a Sgt. Rock/War book, but alas, this just didn’t have the impact I was hoping.

May pick it up again once Brandon leaves. Hopefully, it will still be around for me to get a second chance.

  4. The second issue was pretty good but this series is falling flat. And the back-up is just an awful excuse to tack on an extra dollar.

    • I couldn’t agree more about the back up.

    • Funny, I actually liked the backup better because it told a story with a beginning, middle and end. It had characters I got to know, let me get a handle on the situation, and had a good narrative. The main story was just a mess, really. We’re thrown in with no explanation of the stakes, no relationship to the characters, no resolution… Maybe I’m forgetting something from last issue that might have lead to this? Or are the main stories just one-and-dones? 3/5 due to the main story being a mess.

  5. Can someone please explain to me the three main stories? I have no idea what the hell is going on. Are they tied? Was Sgt Rock even in all of them? Assuming there were powers being demonstrated, that kind of ruins the book for me. I prefer to just read a straight up war story.

And I don’t really understand why this mission was a fail, and the structure of the rest of the story in this issue. So barring one of you guys clearing it up for me, this will probably be my drop this week from the new 52

    • I totally agree – the main stories have been a mess. It’s a pretty mess, but it just doesn’t make a lot of sense. Are the stories one-and-done, or a continuation?

I would also agree about the powers. There is no need for that every issue. If they were to occasionally fight someone with powers, that would be cool. I’d like to see this title go more into the “Stormwatch: Team Achilles” vein. If you haven’t read that, it was great – a military team of badasses fighting all kinds of super-powered threats. The whole Project: ENTRY universe thing was fantastic.
