FABLES #116

In part three of “Cubs in Toyland,” we clear up a little problem with the title. It’s called “Cubs,” plural, “in Toyland” but so far it’s only poor Therese who’s trapped there. How do we fix this? Enter the daring young cub named Dare! He’s found a back door into the lost land with the help of one clockwork tiger. He’s determined to rescue his sister, and as the military folks say, “Who dares wins!”

  1. *sigh* I hate to say this but I’m only getting this out of habit

    • This has seemed a little aimless in recent months but Fables has never let me down in the long run so I’m hoping this all comes together in a big way eventually.

    • Really? I’ve thought the book has been on fire since Super Team ended. The ending of Super Team was probably the only time I’ve ever really been disappointed in the resolution of a Fables arc. After the big deal Mr. Dark seemed to become after the events of issue 100, the resolution just felt like a huge let down. I half expected Dex to show up or something when Mr. Dark and Mr. North got put in the box.

The North Wind trials, and what’s going on with the Cubs right now has been all around excellent. Though I’d like to see more focus on Rose Red and her deal, as it seems to be rather important.

    • That’s part of my issue with Fables right now. I feel like since the issue 100 there have been all these hints dropped about Rose Red and in over a year really nothing has progressed in that story line. Fables has always been a slow burn and I’m still enjoying it but, in my opinion, it has never really gotten back to the level of greatness it had prior to the end of the Adversary storyline.

    • I think for me i might be burned out cuz i used to read in trades then switched for the fables war, then pulled issues ever since then.

Maybe it’s time to go back to trades

    • @wangman I think you hit the nail on the head. I caught up and switched to trades right before Sons of Empire. Think that might be the difference. I normally don’t subscribe to the “better read in trades theory.” To me comics are meant to be read in issues, but I think this book might be one of the few exceptions to that rule.

  2. I love the cubs and am really enjoying the semi-creepiness of this. I think this will turn out well. Remember the prophecy!
