This is one of four Batman titles that I read–okay, three now that Morrison’s wonderful magnum opus has come to a close. Eponymous Batman is really great right now, but will be focusing on the past for many months to come with Zero Year. I’m also loving the silly Batman ’66, but that’s a different kettle of fish altogether. So right now Detective is filling a really important niche in the Batman universe, and I’ve been enjoying Layman and Fabok’s run more and more. I recently caught up on a stack of Detectives that I had been neglecting and have come to the realization that these guys are doing some quality Batman storytelling. Looking forward to #23!
Totally agree. Detective has been awesome since Layman came on board. I am loving the Man-Bat backups too.
Legends of the Dark Knight is pretty good, too. As is The Dark Knight. One features one-shots while the other focuses on villains more and has long arcs. The new Clayface arc looks like it will be interesting.
The Dark Knight can only go up after hitting rock bottom with the Mad Hatter storyline. Let’s hope you’re right about Clayface.
The Mad Hatter arc was about 2 issues too long, IMO.
I’ve been really enjoying Layman’s ‘Tec, but I didn’t love this issue as much as some of the others. I think it’s the Wrath character, not very interested in him yet.
Fabok is back! Really enjoying Layman’s run and digging the Wrath storyline. Detective is a solid book once more. Clarke is great on the backup art as well, although for some reason I find myself wanting a Man-Bat story and not a Woman-Bat one.
