DARK X-MEN #5 (OF 5)

It’s the final showdown between the Dark X-Men and X-Man, all within the mind of Norman Osborn. Can the rag-tag group of villains take down the nigh-omnipotent Omega-level mutant while keeping Osborn sane? Or will this battle be what finally tips Norman over the brink forever?

  1. This has been fun but damn I would kill for captain britian to
come back. Or for these guys
to actually just out and out take over an x-men book and make
    it awesome

  2. They would be great on New Mutants.

  3. I’m excited for this, which is saying a lot since I don’t care about these characters (except osborn) go Cornell and Kirk! I want them on an Adam the blue marvel book now!

  4. They would be great with characters that I cared about at all. So, yes, let’s move them on to one of the ongoing X-titles. Personally I’d like to see Fraction go, and Kyle and Yost switch to Uncanny. Give Cornell and Kirk the X-force title or have Carey move on to new projects and give X-men (not Legacy anymore) to Cornell, with some completely new blood on X-force. I think Carey gets X-men better than Fraction — who I think is a good writer, just not a good X-writer — but both might be ready to move on post-second coming.

  5. Excited for this. Turned out to be a lot of fun. I hope Nate Grey goes on to more great stuff in Marvel proper.

  6. @jimbilly, yeah I would buy that xforce book

  7. I was completely ecstacic to see X-Man come back in the first issue, though I hope this isn’t the last we’ll be seeing of him. I loved Warren Ellis’ repurposing of him, and am glad that Leonard and Kirk gave him a second life. Nate rules!

  8. This might’ve been more interesting if Nate Grey wasn’t in it. 🙂

  9. I actually think Fraction is an awesome X-writer… I much prefer his Uncanny run to any of the other X’s coming out right now. Its sweeping, has a bit of weight to it, features a lot of strong characters vying for the readers’ understanding without requiring their emotional buy-in, has good action on a character-to-character level, and nods to all the long-standing relationships without regurgitating them. I dig it.

  10. Sad end to the issue…I know it was sort of an open ending but that last scene where they wheeled Nate off almost made me swell up. Let’s hope that we see more of him. And more importantly, let’s hope that they pair up Cornell and Kirk for another project, they make magic together.

  11. This was a very weak issue (and ending) to an otherwise entertaining mini-series.

  12. Seriously, Marvel should give Cornell and Kirk a satellite X-Book ongoing. It would be awesome.

Sorry. I know some folks like Fraction’s Uncanny, but I just think it’s an overcrowded mess, myself. Not enough of a clear and workable direction. It’s not a well-written TEAM book. Just a focus on two characters, with a lot of cameos.

This WAS a strong team book. Everybody got the right amount of panel time, development, and the plot moved forward well. THIS, in my opinion, is what the X-Books have been missing for the last few years.

  13. I would love to see this team on Uncanny or the other X-Men book.

  14. Good mini. I hope X-Man returns later on. And Cornell/Kirk should definitely be on an ongoing X-Men book.

  15. Dark X-men finally gets some POTW love w/ #5. In the time when all things X are awful a diamond in the rough appears.Dark X-men mini is exactly why you should not lose hope. Cornell does what Cornell does taking B & C list characters & making a great quirky fun action drama. Also Leonard Kirk art was great on MI13 & it continues w/ Dark X-men. Last Time I’ll say this Paul Cornell on X-men PLEASE!
