I’m familiar with Conan but I’m new to reading Conan comics. I really enjoyed the first issue and I’ll be giving this one a shot too. I’m always up for trying new books, and I feel like the fantasy or adventure genres are really underrepresented. Plus I’m usually very impressed with Dark Horse’s overall quality.
I didn’t much care for the glib Conan in the first issue but all is redeemed with issue 2. I’m still a little on the fence about the art. I think the line work needs a touch more detail.
I have been impressed with Roy Thomas. Here or there there are few signs that he learned to write comic in a different era, but overall really good. And he has a really superb feel for the character of Conan. The art is not as rich as I would like it to be. Conan art should be really rich and alive and earthy, this was a little more basic. Not bad by any stretch, but not pulling me in.
This series deserves way more pulls!!
