CONAN THE BARBARIAN #4

Conan’s adventures in Messantia ended with the Cimmerian nearly losing his head, but now that he has an entire pirate crew backing him up, returning to take a city’s worth of gold is just too tempting—and pirate queen Bêlit has a plan!

* Writer Brian Wood begins a new story arc with artist James Harren!

“James Harren’s art echoes the old EC horror masters while still managing to be current. The motion of the action is superb on every page and it is ably matched by the character moments in between.”—Comic Book Resources

  1. James Harren = awesome. His work on BPRD The Long Death blew my mind.

  2. Avatar photo tripleneck (@tripleneck) says:

Agreed. As much as I love Cloonan, I’m excited to see Harren alternating on art.

  3. I’m enjoying the heck out of this series. Last issue was the best one yet. Can’t wait for the return to Argos!

  4. Cloonan is killing it on art. I want to see if it will read the same with Harren? I am not knocking his art. To me the art makes this book a middle stacker or a top stacker.

  5. This was soo awesome, one of the few comics I read today but it definitely deserves a pick (I’m not sure if it’s better then SAGA though, since I haven’t read that yet).

  6. When I got to the double-page spread of the Argos port, my mouth fell open in astonishment… and still is. Harren is amazing!

  7. James f-ing Harren. With this issue, He has arrived.

  8. Big big things in Harren’s future. Love being in on the ground floor when a new creative talent starts to spread their wings. Looking forward to the rest of his Conan work, and then it’s back to the BPRD (my favorite book on the stands).

  9. Not normally the contrary type but here goes: I’m a much bigger fan of Cloonan. I took acid a few times in college and Harren’s art reminds me of being on acid. Especially the way Belit’s face looks – eyes too far apart, kind of seems melty, etc.

Please keep in mind – I’m not ripping anyone for preferring Harren, just offering an opinion. You like what you like and that’s cool.

    • ‘Swhy I like it. There is one panel where her eyes were off, and it wasn’t a stylistic thing. It kind of made me laugh more than anything.

  10. Am I th only one who noticed the panel of the town where the artist drew in the character from Orc Stain? Check it out It looks Like it’s him
