  1. Not sure if I’m going to get this. Any suggestions?

  2. I’m going to try it. What’s the harm?

  3. I never cared for this title before it got cancelled, but since then I have fallen in love with Gail Simone. I’ll give this book a shot, hopefully it’s at the same caliber as Secret Six.

  4. Definitely getting the first couple of issues based on Gail Simone’s Secret Six stuff. I love that Hawk could probably not be a worst fit for the team, but he clearly has to be on it, because, you know, he’s a bird of prey. If you name yourself correctly, you will go far in this world.

  5. I too am interested in this book because of Gail Simone, but I am also interested in this book because I am hopeful that it will explains Dove’s power against the black lanterns.  Why did she light up like a roman candle whenever a black lantern looked at her?

  6. Oh, and Cliff Chiang can draw him some women!  He hit out of the park on that recent Brave and the Bold issue.

  7. I’m all over this creative team.  Right up my alley.  I’ll try out the first arc.

  8. I am interested in giving this book a try again. By the time the previous volume ended, I was definitely in need of a break. So happy to see that the BoP are moving back to Gotham City.

  9. I wish Chiang was drawing. Benes isn’t bad but he isn’t a good fit.

  10. So far I’ve read issues 56-80 of the original Birds Of Prey run, and I loved every single panel of it. I especially love the bulk of that run where Simone and Benes teamed up, so I’m very happy to see them back together for this series. This is probably my most anticipated book of this week, which is saying alot being as Return Of Bruce Wayne and Siege are also coming out this week.

  11. Enjoyed most of the first run..and Secret Six is consistantly one of my fav books every month..even if it gets no love from iFanboy 😉

  12. Shit is always going down on Secret Six! It’s so damn good.

Don’t think this will disappoint but I like Simones brutal sense of humor and intellect, that can only really shine on a book like Secret Six.

  13. Pretty sweet team for Hawk to be on,,,for the getting laid factor

  14. Wait, Hawk is in it? Kinda want to pass on it now…

  15. @comicBOOKchris:  Ditto

  16. Awesomeness. Why was this cancelled again?

@drake- Chase down those trades! Mostly the second half of the first series was very, very awesome.

  17. I hope Simone brings back Sin. I couldn’t believe the stupid manner in which Judd Winick worte her out of GA/BC.

  18. I missed out on the first run but heard very good things.  So I’m going to pick this up and hope I can dive right in.

  19. I like Gail Simone’s work on Wonder Woman so I will give this a go. I really think Benes should just give up on mainstream comics and do porno comics tho. Her certainly seems like he wants to a lot of the time. Not that I’m complaining… I enjoy his work, its just not very condusive to widening the base of comic book fans. particularly female fans. That is my experience of his work anyway.

  20. @WadeWilson-Can do, sir! I’ve been thinking of tracking them down for a while. I trust your judgement.

  21. @har13quin I disagree with you. Yes, Benes does draw sexy and occassionally disproportionate women. I was afraid what my girlfriend would think of the first tade, to be honest. It turned out that it was the only superhero comic she’s ever had an interest in reading. She really liked that first Gail Simone trade. I think the key is that he doesn’t usually draw these women in an exploitative way. Even when they’re tied up and captive, I feel like he draws them in such a way that they could very well break free at any moment.

I don’t understand why hot = porno. Not to rehash that Power Girl argument, but powerful women can have big boobs too.

  22. Really dug BOP up to the OYL jump, liked Simone’s WW, LOVED Secret Six, and the preview shown looks great.

Yeah, I’m on this like white on rice. 😀

  23. BOP was never better when Simone and Benes were at the helm. LOVE the addition of Hawk and Dove.

  24. I like Ed Benes, i guess I am a sexy sexist. 🙂

  25. @rustyautoparts just gave me the idea for an equation that I think all the ifanbase need to adhere to: hot girls + sexy outfits = not always porno.

I’m glad that no one here is decrying this book, because I always thought that the "Benes draws sexually inappropriate women in BoP" argument to be a highly flawed one. If you compare that run to something like Campbell’s run on the first Gen13 series, people wouldn’t be calling Benes’ art sexist. But I’m glad that the Power Girl and Gotham City Sirens arguments aren’t being repeated here.

  26. Anyone a fan of the late 90’s Hawk and Dove series by the Barbara and Karl Kessel? I thought it was a really underrated run that made 2 characters I never cared about very interesting.

  27. I was a bit lost in this issue. Not a great introduction.

I mean I know the plot and all but I have no familiarity with these characters or a lot of what they’re talking about. The reveal fell extremely flat.

  28. This was enjoyable. Not the strongest first issue I’ve ever read, but certainly a fun start. I’m in for the next issue.

  29. One of the few times the phrase "you can’t go home again" doesn’t apply. I loved the hell out of this issue, I thought it was very much on par with Simone’s previous run on the series. The art by Benes was great as usual. As a matter of fact, I dare say it was even better than his previous work on BoP.

  30. @comicBOOKchris WORD!

  31. I really loved this issue. I had read a few issues of the previous run of BoP and didn’t quite gel with it. Not bad, just didn’t click with me. But this issue hit all the right buttons. Very well done. Not the greatest first issue ever, but really enjoyable. I’m also a big Black Canary fan and seeing her so well written is a treat. (I also love Barbara too.) 5/5 and believe it or not a contender for POTW for me.

  32. I’m really glad I gave it a try and I’ll be back for more at least until this arc is done. Loved the intro with BC kicking ass and I’m intrigued by Dove. Lady Blackhawk is gonna be all over her sidekick though.

  33. I thought this was awesome x10. Loved seeing the crew back together .. I just really hope that White Canary is Shiva & not Cassandra Cain. DC has already ruined her character enough.

  34. @drake- Yay! Someone trusts my judgement, finally! Wanna go get drunk & play frisbee on the highway?

  35. This issue was fun. I read the original run in trade and couldn’t wait to revisit this team. After the issue, it’s clear that Simone is still in touch with these gals. Like Prax, I’m in it mainly for Barbara and Dinah (two of my favorite DC ladies), and to see them treated so well after a year os so of poor characterization (particularly Black Canary) is refreshing.

And I for one love Benes’ unneccessary butt-shots. In fact, I thought he toned it down a bit in this issue. In yesterday’s interview, Simone mentioned including a little more sex in this run than she did in the first. If that’s the case, you got the right artist for the job. I say bring on the gratuitous T&A!

  36. I give it a 4. I might be a little generous, but it’s definitely better than a 3. The art was good, and the story is off to a decent start. Don’t know who White Canary is, but I think Calculator must be behind the massive data-mining going on. He’s the Anti-Oracle, after all. I’ll stick around for another issue…
