  1. I’m going to check this out at my LCS and if I buy it it’ll be for the Steve Rude art.

  2. This looks fun.

  3. At this point I feel like I’m just completing the set but I’m prepared to be surprised

  4. Should be interesting. I love how his cape is his downfall, like in The Incredibles. If superheroes were real, capes would only serve to slow them down.

    • Yeah, Dollar Bill was the first guy I thought of when I saw the Incredibles.

I guess karma caught up with the corporate superhero. Booster Gold should watch his back.

  5. Poor DB dead with his cape caught in the revolving door was one of my favorite scenes from the movie. I really love the Minutemen. Wouldn’t mind seeing HBO or Showtime developing a series with them. The Steve Rude art should be a treat!

  6. This was an ok one-shot, the hand lettering was a little off-putting for me and I feel the death of Dollar Bill was a bit of an anti-climax as the panel was so small. The full page panel in Minutemen issue 5 or maybe 6 of Dollar Bill’s demise by Darwyn Cooke would have fit perfectly.

  7. This was hands down one of the worst comics I’ve ever read. Steve Rude was not on his top form, the writing was cheesy and incredibly homophobic for no apparent story reason, the layout of the caption boxes and word balloons was confusing in a number of places. Absolute rubbish with no redeeming features at all.

    • I disagree with your homophobic comment. Dollar Bill had the attitude of an athlete in those days (and sadly still an attitude with alot of athletes today…see recent super bowl comments by a Raven player). Having a homophobic character doesn’t mean the book or writer are homophobic,

Overall I enjoyed this but it was nothing special. I thought the art was good.

    • Yeah. Filled to the brim with cliche and cheeziness. “And just like that, blinking with astonishment – I died” is probably the most eyeroll inducing caption box I’ve read in quite a while. There is no reason for this comic to exist. It doesn’t offer a new take on Moore’s work. It just fleshes out a minor character with the most boring cliches you could imagine. It’s not only derivative of Watchmen, but also completely rips off Darwyn Cooke’s Minutemen mini. Just a complete cash grab by DC not worth the paper it’s printed on.

  8. First off, this was poor and pointless. I did like the golden age feel of the hand lettering and the sometimes weird caption layout. The narration lent absolutely no dimension to the character at all.

  9. I enjoyed this one shot more than most of the other Watchmen minis. There was absolutely nothing homophobic in this issue. There was just a character that had a certain point of few about homosexuality.

  10. I didn’t find Bill Brady to be an interesting or inspiring character. which I found disappointing. I didn’t find him to be homophobic, just ignorant and small minded. I also was underwhelmed by the death panel, the the dialogue was not dairy free and I wouldn’t be interested in an ongoing.
BUT despite all that, I didn’t think this was terrible.
I liked the classic lettering, the old school narrative style was nostalgic and the art was solid. Over all, I enjoyed the book for what it is(a one-shot) and what it accomplishes(filling in the blanks from bill’s perspective).
    3 stars.
