Enjoyed the last issue, should be interesting to see where this goes. Love the classic costume. (Yvonne Craig for the win!)
This is a fantastic cover.
"the mystery of her secret identity intensifies" is there more going on than #1 had us believe? or is the publicist @ DC confused?
@Zeppo: Solicitations are released three months ahead of time so they have to keep the mystery for three months. It’s one of the worst things about comics.
@conor Exactly. I miss not having any idea what’s going to happen going into an issue. (Yes, I know I can not look at previews, but I’m a big fan of seeing the covers in advance, helps me remember what issues to pick up.)
The mystery might be for the characters in the book (some of them anyway). I for one was very pleased that they didn’t drag out the "who is she" stuff.
This cover would go well with the song Leggy Blonde by Flight of The Conchords!
Phil Noto always makes awesome covers.
I can’t say I’m really engaged with Stephanie Brown as much of an interesting character (and I’ve been reading Batman since she was introduced), but I’m giving this a little bit of rope cause I really liked this writer’s Titans issues. Folks who like Stephanie, why do you like her? She doesn’t seem especially smart, exciting, or realized beyond her daddy-issues/thrill-seeker aspects to me (she may have been used a little too-far afield from when Dixon created her). She got knocked up, fired as Robin, screwed up in War Games, yet somehow she (and the Bat-Office) keep coming back to her for some reason. If this first arc doesn’t make me realize WHY she’s Batgirl, I doubt I stick around. WHO is not enough. Good that Babs is in the book though…(not much of a Birds of Prey replacement though…)
@Southby I can understand not liking Stephanie Brown, but in all honesty I find Cassandra Cain to be alienating and more than a little boring. I can’t stand characters who are "perfect" or the "The best fighter in 1000000 lands." It’s the same reason I groaned when Tim beat Lady Shiva before his title got canned. I like Stephanie because she is flawed. She’s not the "right" choice for Batgirl and she knows it. But she wants it, because she has to prove to Tim (and everyone else) and herself that she can do it. And I like an underdog story more than I like seeing the story of an "awesome person" doing things well. As well, I have to say I take exception to "getting knocked up" being a reason someone can’t be a hero.
These days, I find Stephanie much more intresting than Cassandra.
Not a bad issue, I would like DC to collect key Stephanie storys for a trade.
Anyone know if that sort of book is out, or atleast a trade of Steph as Robin.
Not particularly great and a bit of a step down from the previous issue, but I still enjoyed it and rate it a 4/5. I may not stay on this book after the first arc finishes though.
@ Reform:
Check out the TPB Batman: War Drums. This is the arc before War Games where Step, as Robin (which she also becomes Robin in this arc), gets fired for not listening to Batman and almost getting killed. Then to show Batman she was worthy, starts a massive gang war in which hundreds of people (including kids at Tim’s school) die. Then Tim becomes Robin again in the War Games story.
Blah…where is Cassandra?
