  1. So the dude who did the atrocious job he did on the past three issues isn’t doing this issue (or the rest of the series, from what I understand) and the person who’s doing this is Stephen Mooney, guy who did the Kate storyline from that "First Night" storyline…

I say bring it. Let’s get this book back on art track!

  2. I didn’t think the art was too bad on the last few, but certainly a step down from when the series started. I honestly can’t remember what the First Night art was like, is this an improvement?

Story’s still awesome though. Said it before, say it again, Illyria might just be the best character in the Buffyverse!

  3. The art on the last three issues (by Nick Runge, I think) was insanely rough. I was really feeling it in the last issue, which, when it’s talking heads, needs to be exceptional. Really rough stuff… You’d think they’d put a good artist on it or something…

  4. I actually dropped this last issue because the story feels soooo tedious at this point. The art is incredibly inconsistent going from traced from the dvd perfect to completely unrecognizable within just a couple panels. Seriously I am not nit-pickey about art, but what has been presented during the course of this series has been just unforgiveable. The story which I thought was great initially, has been going nowhere since before "first night" even started.

I may pick this issue up to see if it shows any story progress or insight as to where this series is going, but I don’t have high hopes. I feel like I’ve been duped into spending $44 just to keep the name of a franchise from dying.

  5. @davetron3k Last issue was huge. Yeah, the art was atrocious, but listening to Gunn talk about his everything was SO interesting, and yeah, that last page leaves a lot to be desired, but right now we’re setting up for the big finale at issue #16. This is just set-up and filler to get to there…

  6. @GungaDin I agree with you about the scenes between Angel and Gunn in the last issue. If those hadn’t rung so true to character I wouldn’t even be considering buying #12 or posting on this thread.

I really want this series to be good but honestly, when I see my LCS clerk pull it out of my folder I feel no excitement whatsoever. It feels like this story has been padded out way beyond it’s originally intended run.

  7. @Davetron3k At this point, I’ve bought a year’s worth of this series, and there’s four more issues after this one. I wanna know where it’s going enough to know that even if it bottoms out at the end I’m still kinda pot committed…

  8. So I picked the Wesley cover (he was coming out of a door) and this issue was a step up. The art was better (not perfect, but I didn’t mind it at all, and it was solid. We’re pushing towards something, and that two page splash vision was awesome.

Also, the voices were perfect, and the art matched that. Good stuff…

  9. I’ll say it again why people who like the Buffyverse don’t pick up this comic is beyond me.  Slowly becoming better than the Dark Horse Buffy comic.  But it won’t be truly better until they get a better artist.

  10. @Hawkboy The art was a huge step up from the last issue, if you ask me… But this can’t beat Buffy. This is fun and it’s a romp and it’s a big story that’s going on and on, but Buffy has a sort of magic that this book has a bit of, but can’t grasp fully…

Also, use of Cordelia in this issue? Mad frakkin genius, dude. Mad frakkin genius.

  11. Well for me the TV show Angel was better than Buffy so there is no reason the comic can’t be and it’s getting there (I really think the art is holding it back in a big way now, although I don’t hate it and you’re right it did improve).  I love the Buffy book but I don’t see it as the same magical being you do I suppose! =)

    I heart Cordy…. *Sigh*

  12. @Hawkboy That was awesome when she showed up (and the dragon, HA!). Know the greatest bit? Lynch NAILED her voice too. I felt it was a little more emphasis on like… a superficial high school/first season Cordelia… Still. Super kudos. Loved the Gwen stuff… And Wesley pwns.

  13. Glad I decided to pick this up at the last minute. Feels like the story is moving foreward at last, and the character dialogue flowed more naturally than usual. The only thing I’ll add to the previous comments about the art is that Angel has too many slender females with long hair. What is does NOT have is an artist who can make them distinguishable.
