  1. I would be quite pleased if there was a reference to Chuck Berry’s Maybellene somewhere in this arc. (it was a hit in 1955, and was about car racing, and I dig Chuck Berry hehe)

    • or any music. I am a fan of rockabilly, and I know Scott Snyder has an affinity for Elvis – I should go back and read the last issue – see if there were any music references. I think Elvis was recording for Sun in 1955.

    • Snyder’s done a playlist on his iTunes ping that you can listen to/download with 50’s vampire music. Pretty cool (even if it’s just to listen to the snippets).

    • i think elvis came out in ’54 , but his first big hit was heartbreak hotel in ’56.

    • While reading this comic arc, I went to Rhaspody and typed in 1950’s music. I got 1950’s greatest hits. First song is The Everly Brothers “All I have to do Dream” I sing this song when I look at Skinner Sweets picture. (jk)

  2. Anyone else think that Travis is the child that was cured of vampirism at the end of the last arc?

    • That would rule! Great theory.

    • He could be “Gus” (child cured of vampirism) That would mean that Felica Book was murdered by Skinner Sweet (I KNEW HE WASN’T DEAD!)

Or Travis could be the offspring of Peal and Henry. I know vampires are not supposed to be able to have children, but if Twilight can mess with vampire rules so can American Vampire. And hey maybe “American Vampires” are able to produce children? I am eagerly awaiting the rest of this story arc to find out who Travis is.

  3. These covers are gorgeous, I was going to go to hardcovers after the third volume but I couldn’t pass the last issue up. Excited to see where it goes from here.

  4. I looked up the Nocturnes to see if they were a real band (that was the record he was playing in the hotel room) – but it doesn’t appear that they were. THere is some modern industrial band that has that name – but I didn’t find any evidence of any Nocturnes from the ’50’s.

He was staying at the Holly Hotel, maybe a Buddy Holly reference…maybe I’m reaching.

  5. cars.rockn’roll.wooden bullets.sideburns.greaselightn’.
    good times.

  6. For as much as I’m excited about this 50s arc, I felt like issue was kind of filler. I loved the flashbacks to Travis’ upbringing, but (*SPOILER ALERT*) having Skinner show up as the big cliffhanger at the end didn’t do much for me. I mean, weren’t we all basically expecting it to be Skinner in that other car? Am I missing something here? I know we saw him “die” at the end of the WWII arc, but I didn’t really think his death was for real.

    • i dont think anyone thought it was for real(skinner’s death) and, like you, i was expecting it to be skinner in the other car.
i’m glad he’s back despite the lack of surprise
