ALAN MOORE NEONOMICON #1 (OF 4)

The all-new all-Alan Moore horror series spoken of only in hushed whispers for years is finally here! From the award-winning master of comics, Alan Moore, comes a brand-new tale of Lovecraftian horror that will leave you too afraid to close your eyes, but more afraid to open them! NEONOMICON, the sequel to THE COURTYARD graphic novel, is slithering its way onto shelves to take its place as a Great Old One of comics terror! Illustrated by Moore’s favorite demented artist, Jacen Burrows, NEONOMICON pulls no punches as every full-colored page is covered in nightmares brought to gruesome life! The story begins some years after the chilling events of THE COURTYARD, in a world where two young and cocky FBI agents are investigating strange— and familiar murders. They think they’ve seen the worst monsters in America, but as they pull up to the maximum security asylum where one Aldo Sax speaks in strange tongues, Agents Brears and Lamper may be beginning to suspect that they’re about to see something so much worse. But they cannot begin to imagine the creeping insanity that has already begun to pull them under…

  1. C’mon Moore. Give me more of the good than the creepy. And no weird sex.

OK, maybe a little weird sex. But no tentacles. Save that for the Manga.

  2. I liked the previous issue that came out.  Looks like good characters and a fun story.

  3. I’m actually picking this up for the art.

  4. wow, didn’t see this coming.  Has Moore done anything else recently?

  5. @cutty:I think just the first part of LOEG: Century. I know he’s been working on his concept album/mulimedia art project "Unearthing", his magazine "Dodgem Logic" and The Moon and Serpent Bumper Book of Magic the occult text book he’s doing for topshelf. But, except for Dodgem Logic which does have comics/cartoons in it, none of those are comics.

  6. FINALLY. I think it’s been nearly 2 years that I’ve been hearing about this. I’m not the biggest fan of Jacen Burrows (or the colourists at Avatar), so I hope this is pretty good.

@cutty – I think, besides Dodgem Logic now as well, he’s spent most of the time in the last 5 years working on his gargantuan 2000 page book.

  7. The colorists at avatar are horrible imo.  So much muted browns.  Dave Stewart plz.

  8. Man, I hope my shop gets this.

  9. The Courtyard was GREAT.  I hope this is a worthy succesor.

  10. Really enjoyed this book, by the last page I felt as lost as the characters.  While I agree the colors of Avatar are usually bland, I think in this case it worked.  Also, Jacen Burrows was fantastic in art.  Few artists can take characters we’ve never seen before, put them in disguises, and still have them immediately recognizable to the reader.  Great first issue.

  11. I got shorted, Pff..

  12. Knowing Moore, this will most likely be more than a modern spin on Lovecraft and hopefully be meta-textual take on Lovecraftian horror.  Although, I suppose Neo-nomicon does imply new…

Whatever it is, I enjoyed the first issue.  I also enjoyed the wall trick.
