Young Justice – S01E03 – Welcome To Happy Harbor

I'm psyched for tonight's first new episode of Young Justice. Sure, it was fun to rewatch the pilot these last few weeks, but I'm primed for some new material.

I look forward to your thoughts, opinions, gripes, live-blogging, etc.

I am thrilled to be in you, Happy Harbor!

  2. I missed last week. Glad tobe catching this one.

  3. So…is Speedy on the dope yet?

  4. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

Speedy packs more angst than Hobie from Baywatch.

    “GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!”

They’re getting a little better with their integration of CG vehicles.

  7. “is it wrong that I think i’m hot?”

  8. Superboy in the jacket reminds me of his old costume.

  9. I’m really diggin the child laugh that follows Robin. Spooky.

  10. Hey let’s go fight the bad guys in our civilan identities!!! WTF!

    Bromwell Stikk!?

  12. “Mister Twister” is he related to Twisted Sister?

  13. Was he A Red Tornado villain or just a Teen Titans villain?

  14. Is it just me or is Superboy kind of a dick?

  15. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

    @JesTr  He’s very much a dick.

  16. Hello Megan, should’ve had a V8!

  17. Aaawwwwww!

I wish these were all an hour, or at least two-parters. Good stuff though.

  19. so was that Dr. Morrow?

  20. I did find the fighting in the civilian identities odd.  Could have sworn they would change before engaging Mr. Twister in town.  Oh well, at least Superboy was in costume LOL

  21. Just catching up.  Bought episodes 1 and 2 on iTunes.  $2.99 apiece, just as much as a comic (with a tad more content, don’t you think?)

Great, great series… this, Avengers, and Spectacular Spider-Man are all give BTAS a run for it’s top-of-the-heap status in regards to animated comics series.

  22. This show is a ton of fun, can’t wait until it fits it’s groove!

  23. nice stuff- but why is it superboy doesnt seem as strong as he should be?  He was knocked around like a pinata for most of the episode

  24. @Apotheosize  If he’s too strong it’s not as interesting. They did the same thing with Superman in all the Timm shows

  25. @apotheosize plus he us only like 17 weeks old, his powers are still developing.

  26. The group is great in my opinion I read Young Justice when I was younger and it was funny and action packed comic 🙂 The TV Show reminds of a mix of the Original Outsiders and The Teen Titans with The Batman being there boss. Superboy was more of a jerk and Impulse was the comedy relief and Robin was the cool headed one of the group and Red Tornado was more of a Snarky Uncle in my opinion and Arrowette fits in the group as a tomboy and Cassie Sandsmark fit the role of the bubblie tough girl 🙂 Connor could you guys please do a Video show on The Original Young Justice Comic Book please or a special pod cast 🙂

  27. @JLA1  It’s unlikely either will happen since I’m the only one of the three of us who read the series and it was so long ago I barely remember it.

  28. @Conor I know what your saying- I get it- I just think a wee bit more umph would be in order

  29. Didn’t they decide to release a Young Justice trade to coincide with this?  I seem to recall they did.   I loved that series, though it was a bit more jokey in tone then the cartoon appears to be.     …And if they DIDNT release a trade for this, what fell through in the marketing??  This would be their best opportunity for one!

  30. @conor  i agree. i like a more flawed Superboy. it’s more interesting.

i was rewatching the episode and i came away with the feeling they need more of a female presence. i say this because my kiddo LOVED the Teen Titans show. She crushed on Beastboy but empathized with Starfire & Raven. i guess i will have to wait for Arrowette’s appearance.

    Overall fun show.

  31. @RahUniQue  Not Arrowette; Artemis.

  32. @conor  So she’ll be connected to Wonder Women?

  33. So… am i the only one who was pretty disappointed by this episode?

  34. Great show. Great tie-in comic, too. Wish DC would release a trade of the old series, though. And while you’re at it, DC, lets see a “Young Heroes In Love” animated series/comic re-relase too! 🙂

  35. **re-release

  36. @SteenAR – No, you aren’t. It didn’t thrill me either. The story seemed a bit lackluster and just kinda died off. And I spent the entire ep being annoyed by Superboy. Show’s got potential. This one didn’t excite me too much, though.

  37. @Skyfire124  I remember them announcing a trade as well. No information on that front. It was also a surprise to Peter David when I asked him about it at NYCC in October.

That said, they have released three DC Comics Presents collections in recent months. They’re longer than a standard single issue and go for 6 or 7 bucks each.

  38. This was a fun episode. I really like the tension created by Miss Martian being there. This team definitely needed a woman’s touch.

  39. Theres just something about Superboy that bother me. He yell all the time, is constantly angry, so i guess hes like the Hulk. Can’t wait till he’s more chill like Kon-El

  40. I’m really not a fan of Superboy, but everything else about the show is great. Bane next week =)

  41. Something wasn’t quite clicking for me in this episode, the pilot hour was really good, but this was so wildly uneven. It seemed a lot longer than it was, and not really in a good way? I wish they hung out at the cave more I guess or something. The best part were the character interactions but it’s hard to get a grip on what the dynamic is exactly. Like why is Miss Martian such a rookie? I thought Superboy was the rookie? It just seemed very weird. Robin’s glasses really bothered me also. It’s fine seeing the white eyes in the domino mask but totally covering his eyes made him seem like a doofus amateur poker player.

  42. I like that superboy is a jerk. We’ve never really seen that in a protagonist Superman archetype.

  43. @EgonSpengler  I agree. Plus, he’s freshly out of being raised in a giant tube. It makes total sense that he’d be a little prickly and not a master of social niceties. He’s going to have to learn to be a person among people.

  44. I do like how Sup’s is still a little pissed about Martian Girl being in his head.  Thats all they did to him when he was in the tube.
