That's right, writer Matt Fraction will be joining me Saturday night for a Fireside X-Mas Special, and we want your questions about Invincible Iron Man #500, Thor, and whatever Matt can tell us about his role is as one of Marvel's Architects for 2011.
Please limit yourself to one question per comment. And make 'em good!

Matt — Now that you’re settled into your role as one of Marvel’s main writers, it’s nice to see Casanova back on the solicitations. What are your plans for Casanova in 2011 and beyond…and are you finding it easier now to balance the requirements of ‘in continuity” writing at Marvel with finding time to create your own stuff?
What are Matt’s thoughts about the “Marvel Architects initiative?
If you could write a mini-series based on Thor and any Xmen character which xmen would it be? and what type of story would you tell?
This might be too specific but it has been intruiging me ever since it happened. When Dr. Strange was in Tony’s mind before Seige he made a comment about how no one in the marvel universe refers to the armor as “The Iron Man” except for Tony. I don’t know why but this line stuck in my head. Are there plans to explore this any further or was this just an observation by Strange?
also you are hilarious
How long are you planning on staying on Uncanny X-Men? (please say for a very long time)
Any plans for other X-titles or crossovers?
Can’t wait for volume 3 of Casanova!
If you ever went over to DC which character would you rather write: The Challengers of the Unknown, Deadman, or The Question?
How it went with his Iron Fist pitch? Are we going to see it any time soon? Does the new Powerman and Iron fist conflicts with it?
I would like to think that an author can better write an established character if they find a bit of themselves in that character. What about Tony/IM’s character do you identify with and did you feel that emphasizing that trait was important during your run?
If you worked for DC which books would you want to work on. In the current DCU or just in general. I’d love to see you and the twins take on Classic Plasticman.
What is it like to work with such a diverse group of artists, you cant get more different than Larrocca and Ba/Moon?
Now that Tesla and Twain/Clemmens are back atop our national pop-culture consciousness, who do you believe will be the next Edwardian-era man (or woman) of action to make his (or her) triumphant return to prominence?
Hey, Mr. Fraction. BIG fan of your works on IF, Uncanny and Iron Man. My question: in the Marvel Architects press release, you were listed as having a secret event that you are writing. Any epic hints as to what it is, or who it involves? Is it what the “fear related” ads in the comics are advertising? Thanks for doing these interviews, gents.
Will cassanova be going digital anytime soon?
Are the flying squid robots in tony’s mind while he was in a coma going to play a role in the series later on? They seem to have been there for a reason.
How much did researching historical characters like Tesla, Edison and even Twain influence the way you write fictional mad scientists such as Tony and Reed?
Also, keep on keeping on. http://www.ifanboy.com/content/articles/Writing_SCIENCE_Right
Matty, Any plans for writing another done-in-one Spidey story? I ask as his Spider-Man annual from a few years back truly was an exceptionally moving tale & I think you get Pete’s character.
@Jig You took my second question lol I loved that annual more than any other spidey issue that year. man that was good
@noni +1 on this question.
My own question: One of my favorite things about your run on Iron Man is that you Pepper a superhero. The one-shot Kelly wrote was really cool and I loved the backup story about Pepper in the latest issue. Is it just me or are you campaigning to make Pepper/Rescue a big player in the Marvel U or at least make her more integral to the Iron Mythos?
Thank you for the stories Matt and the laughs and Thank you John for being awesome!
Are you staying on Uncanny or is Gillen going to take over as sole writer, a la you and Brubaker? Any talks about you working in the Ultimate universe? Will we ever see a stable art team on Uncanny that brings the book up to the standards of your other books (if you are staying on the book)?
Hi John, Hi Matt
To both: With so many quality series being cancelled due to any number of factors (I believe over-saturation, lack of retailer initiative, trade waiting on series that needed monthly support to name a few), what are some monthly issue series that you would like to see more people look for or start asking their retailers for?
Thanks from Lord Retail International. 😉
just saw the “one question per” stipulation. my bad guys. just count the first one.
Hey John, Matt – love the podcast, love the comics…
Invincible Iron Man seems to be in a pattern of 12 part stories – I assume this is purposeful. Is there a particular reason for this beyond it being the best way you could think of to tell these particular stories. Is it perhaps to separate it from other comics on the stand and do you think that the 12 issue story format is something that should be more widely attempted. I, for one, have been consistently enjoying the book but the length of the stories, I’ll admit, tends to wear on me by about the third act, it seems. I was just curious about your thoughts on the subject.
-iGotKittyPryde (and I am of course in John’s pants)
This one may be more for Matt than John, but I’d like a response from both.
Matt, you once were a clerk at North Carolina’s fantastic comic book shop Heroe’s Aren’t Hard to Find.
What are some of your favorite memories from your time at the store and.. to someone who wants to work in comic book retail.. what advice can you give in terms of things to know about the business side of comics and what should be avoided.
I’ll take my answer off the air. Thanks in advance. -=WL=-
Why don’t they print your issue titles in Uncanny like they do in Iron Man?
Do you regularly read sources of “futurist” thinking for ideas and inspiration? I really appreciate the focus on this element of Tony Stark, especially in Stark Resilient – if you haven’t already, check out the World Futurist Society online, interesting stuff.
Thanks for the stories and podcast – and go Cubs (though Kerry Wood again? really?)
I really appreciate that you’ve included Filipino characters in your Iron Man stories (e.g. Triumph Division and Mr. Cababa) These characters could’ve been depicted as another Asian race, but you made them Pinoy. What made you decide to make this characters Filipino? Hope to see more them in future stories.
By the way, I started to keep note of all these Easter eggs in comic books that show Pinoy characters or something from the Philippines and I call them “balut eggs”, a popular Filipino delicacy. Here’s what I’ve found so far: http://babblingpoint.blogspot.com/search/label/balut%20egg
And thanks again to John for another great episode of Word Balloon!

Since Invincible Iron Man launched back in 2008 because of the movie, so my question is do you feel anymore or less pressure to write Thor in a way for new readers who may want to try the comic, like how many people started with Invincible Iron Man.
Are you going to make Thor as accessible to new readers as you did with Iron man?
@hakon1913
If your worried about Thor, don’t be. I’ve never read any in my life and have enjoyed the last four issues greatly.
For Mattt, is there anything the fans can do to help greenlight the Ironman/Green Lantern crossover talked about by you and Johns. It sounds like it has the potential to be great fun.
How do you rationalize your Electirc car arc for Tony. Meaning here we have a man who has invented anit-gravity devices
and time machines but now has trouble making what is essentially an electric car work?
It would seem that you are attempting to put more of a real world perspective on the tech but don’t you feel you are ignoring a large part of Tony Stark’s character and history by taking this approach?
Matt,
You’re a futurist and all, and it is the “holiday season.” So, what’s your take on the recent move many folks are making towards non-Judeo-Christian end-of-year celebrations? Whether it’s druidic solstice bonfires, neo-pagan Saturnalia feasts, or post-ironic hipsters airing grievances around the Festivus pole, it seems we’re flooded with new – or ancient – ways to get our December partying on. Why? And, what’s next?
Matt,
Are there any DC characters you’d like to write? Also, tell us about your connection with John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats.
Since you took such a radical different approach with Iron Man, focusing more on character development and social engineering and less on action, battles and tons of high science, and Thor, bringing back the weird science aspect and different kinds of aliens, which other character would you like to develop in a simliar fashion?
Any chance you will be coming to germany for anything (Frankfurt Book Fair, Comic Action?)
Gentlemen, thank you for doing this. My question, Matt, you write the characters from Marvel and I assume that there are certain ‘rules’, you need to follow.
To what extent do you write it differently than you creater owned characters? Or is there no difference in writing them?
Matt, congratulations on your success and the new baby.
Any chance we may see Henry Hellrung again in the near future?
Matt, congratulations for your new baby,
Will be Spider-woman involved in fear? and kitty pryde? I know that you can noty spoil anything. but only yes/not would be enough. THANKS.
Hey Matt and John,
In case you need a break from the comics talk, what is it about baseball that makes you guys love it so much? You are both among a group of people I respect and admire who truly love baseball. I feel like it’s a sport that has a lot of hidden depth, so I’m planning on making an effort this season to get into baseball and understand it on that deeper level. Any tips on how I can do this?
[John, thanks for reading my question a few months ago with Brubaker. It’s no sweat, but if you use this one my name is pronounced “Ken-Oh-SHALL-ick”; the CH is like in Chicago. Thanks for all the great shows!]
You! Ba/Moon! NEXT WAVE! What say you?!?
Howdy Matt and John. This question is for both of you.
In your opinion, whats the been the best comic to film adaptation and are there aspects of the comic book movie as we know it that you’d like to see change?
Hi John and Matt.
Matt, I was just wondering, what movies, books, or even videogames have inspired you lately?
Howdy, gents.
Matt — did the desire to write comics come from a lifelong love, or did any one thing in particular inspire you, and make you decide this was the medium you wanted to work in?
Thanks, both of you, for your time.
Hello to both of you.
Mr. Fraction, before getting to the question, I want to say that I was impressed, immensely, by the Casanova #3 backmatter. Admitting those things in public, I think, takes backbone.
My question: Apparently, there is an Orson Welles themed arc in Casanova coming up. Given the venue, can you talk a little bit about that, or is it too far off in the distance and goes into crazy spoiler territory?
Thanks again.
Matt- Will we ever have another full episode of you on the Best Show? Thanks.
Hi matt – what do you think makes a great comic book cover? Do you have a favorite cover from one if your books from the last year or so? What makes it your favorite?
