Weekly Webcomic Report – 02.21.2011

Welcome to another fine edition of the Weekly Webcomic Report highlighting some of the best things to happen in online comics over the past week: 02.14.2011- 02.20.2011!

"Morning Motivation" by Nedroid

Created by Anthony Clark, this goofy and comedic webcomic follows a series of characters on their various adventures that are often ridden with the day-to-day minutia yet remain humorous and satisfying. This comic in particular hit home because I really don't like to get out of bed – but who does? You can follow Anthony Clark on twitter: here

"The Wounds Of The Past" by Penny Arcade!

I know this is a popular webcomic, but this post was absolutely fantastic and hilarious! As a huge X-Fan, I recall the moment in discussion, and it's nice to finally see an apology. Furthermore, the expressions drawn on Wolverine and Magneto's faces are brilliant. Bravo, gents!

"Bang" by Three Word Phrase

This frequently updated webcomic created by Ryan Pequin is rooted in obscure humor that runs the lengths of dead-pan to over the top. To date, this is one of my favorite comics for it's aforementioned comedic style, but also its brevity and each comic's accessibility. There have been times where I've spent an hour just clicking the 'random' button featured on the homepage and laugh the whole time (it's suggested you try the same). This comic aside, I'd like to share with you my favorite from Three Word Phrasehere. You can also follow Ryan Pequin on twitter: here

"Paper Doll (part 1)" by Truth Serum

Another fantastic comic that panders to the amusement of dry or dead-pan humor styles. Witty, sharp, well drawn and frequently updated – Jon Adam's comics consistently hit the bull's eye. And after trudging through another Valentine's Day, it's easy to find appreciation in this post of Truth Serum.

"The New Kid" by Grickle

While this is only the second Weekly Webcomic Report, I'd like to make an effort to also highlight an amazing comic artist's blog/Flickr site that often reminiscent of comic style or form. This week is the image/comic titled "The New Kid" by Graham Annable, creator of the Grickle comics, posted on his Flickr beautifully displays great line work and coloring along with his great sense of humor. Aside from posting to his site, he has had his work appear in film, television and the video game and comic industries which include George Lucas, Nickelodeon and Disney Productions. You can follow him on twitter: here.

While some are already avid webcomic readers, if you're not you should take some time to explore the amazing world of online publications such as these!

  1. I know it was highlighted on this site before but I am addicted to Our Valued Customers

I am also loving Hipster Hitler

  2. @IMBGY11 I love both of those too! I’m sure they will find a place on this report soon enough.

  3. While I appreciate Garfield-esque and Far Side-type strips as much as the next guy, there are a lot of Flash Gordons, Secret Agent Corrigans and Prince Valiants out there too — and not just mine.

Will this column also focus on long-form stories and other genres?
