Video: Y: THE LAST MAN Fan Film Has a Real Monkey and Everything

It’s another big summer for comic book movies, but we’ve found one adaptation that you probably didn’t have marked on your calendar. Recognize these guys?

Scripted and direct by Christian Cardona, this Y: The Last Man fan film is so impressive a venture, you may actually cough up blood. At around twenty minutes, it also covers more ground than you may think possible, with some set pieces above and beyond what we’d normally expect from this type of production made on spec. Forget the commercial planes and helicopters. There’s a real monkey in there, and not just sitting around as set dressing. Consider this a more than capable proof of concept until Hollywood’s official adaptation finally frees itself from whatever Houdini restraints are holding it back and lands in your local multiplex.

  1. Ongoing web series? Yes, please

  2. This is spectacular. it would be better as a television miniseries than a movie though

  3. It would definitely translate better in an episodic format.

This was a really legit fan film. Very impressive.

  4. I’m perfectly satisfied with Y: The Last Man existing purely as a fantastic comic book series, and despite some decent production values for a fan film (probably better than a SyFy original film), my opinon remains unchanged. Why can’t Y: The Last Man just be left alone? By the way, the script in this video was pretty bad (“She doesn’t need that). It completely lacked energy.

  5. Surprisingly good production quality!

Y would be an absolutely perfect cable TV series. We can hope!

If used as a spec film kinda thing, I’m into it. It’s not perfect, but it’s pretty effin rad.

  7. I just see a picture and no link to the film. Am I missing something?

  8. oh, it just popped up.

  9. Pretty cool…
Thought 355 was too feminine until she kicked some Amazooty (that’s Amazon booty).
Poor Yorick didn’t get to try Tasha Yar’s hash browns.
    Makes you appreciate good acting.
Definitely shows the possibilities…kudos to those involved.

  10. enjoyed it alot, specially the first 10 minutes. after that it kinda goes a little down for me but great try.if this was a web series id totally would watch it though.plus extra points for hero being super hot.

  11. This is very awesome, loved it, really hope this will be ongoing..

  12. I’ve never read Y but its high on my deluxe HC list right now and this was a really good production for a fan film….sure there were some lousy stiff acting bits on a cpl of the amazons but hey Vida Guerra is in it, she was the hot spanish fly girl with the excellent booty in all the mags for a min a cpl yrs ago, probably still is, I saw her in Maxim once then about 5 other covers on the stands within a month, just reporting the facts. Anyway, this made me more interested in Y than I already was and do think it would make a great AMC series. They don’t overdue the commercial breaks and are lenient with the graphic content, being a Vertigo series, Y needs that….or maybe FX but they’re not as good with the commercials.

  13. Very good for a fan film. Makes me wish Y would make it on as a finite cable series (live action or even animated). So much potential.

  14. Holy shit!!! That was amazing. How the fuck is that a fan film? The plane scene was incredible! Now I have to start reading it again. Please please please make this a TV show please.

  15. Ok- yes, it’s quite impressive. But the casting and costumes are ridiculous. 355 should not be wearing hooker makeup or have long ass dreads. She’s not concerned with vanity- she’s concerned with doing her job while trying to survive. Almost every woman of child-bearing age in this thing looks like they may have done some porn work. Nothing is wrong with that, but I just feel like this style has been done over and over. I’m bored and it’s cheesy. ALSO why aren’t the Amazons missing a boob? They can figure out how to make a helicopter crash in the middle of the city but they can’t figure out how to chop off some boobs? Come on. Be true to the story, sacrifice some sexiness for some story.

BUT all shit talking aside, really great for a fan film!
