Watching the spectacular Rise of the Planet of the Apes this weekend, some part of me mulled over that old question. "Will there be a day when flesh and blood actors become entirely supperfluous? Will Andy Serkis and his catsuit covered in ping pong balls replace even Patricia Clarkson in a $4000 indie?" The obvious answer is "Whatever. I dunno."
Set in that uncanny valley where imitation wavers between alluring and unnerving, here's a clip of a Christopher Reeve-styled Superman squaring off against the Incredible Hulk. It's all the creation of Canadian animator Matt Habjan, who's been tinkering with the project in his spare time over several months. It's a fairly simple fight scene, but what pushes it into more interesting territory is the decision to employ Reeve's likeness for the fully animated character, making this a real mashup of cinematic titans. Pretty impressive for a side venture.

I hate myself for falling into this trap – but wouldn’t Superman be able to use his super-speed and beat the Hulk that way? I know it’s one of those things (like with the Flash) where you have to limit the powers or there is no conflict… but still.
I LOVED that they puched each other and sent each other flying backwards. Never seen that done quite that way before. With the desert landscape, that realy worked.
I didn’t like Superman using his head as a battering ram. I get that he didn’t get the opportunity to land a flying punch because Hulk leaned in with his shoulder. I just think Supes would have come at him with outstreached arms and double-fists to Hulk’s gut.
Great Job! I love how Superman just pounds away at the Hulk’s head.
BTW I see his cape as his downfall.
The madder Hulk gets the Stronger Hulk gets… if Supes doesn’t put him down quick in the early rounds eventually Hulk will wear him down.

Supes would totally kick Hulk’s ass. There’s no comparison.
I can’t wait till someone really puts together a compelling story with this style of animation. I remember that some of the DC Online previews did something similar, and it was equally cool.
