VIDEO: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer

Agent Coulson was one of the great surprises of the Iron Man movie. No one is that film could outperform RDJ but Clark Gregg gave us a calm, collected, and capable counterpoint to ole tinhead. Not to mention that it was Coulson who revealed the presence of S.H.I.E.L.D. thereby setting the stage for the shared universe that we have now. Not bad for a mere special agent!

So if you couldn’t tell already I’m something of an Agent Coulson fan, and I imagine I’m not the only one as Marvel went and made a short film about some of the hi-jinks Coulson got up to on the road to New Mexico to deal with the Mjolnir crater in between Iron Man 2 and Thor. The video is one of the extras on the Captain America Blu-Ray/DVD  which comes out next week, but since you were all very good you get to have it right now! There are a few easter eggs for the true geek, but it’s honestly just a great window into who this character is and how can stay so suave around gods, super-soldiers, and Sam Jackson.

So enjoy a brief taste of Marvel movies while we twiddle our thumbs for The Avengers next summer.

  1. I love that guy.

  2. Agent Coulson is SO out of character here. Can’t decide between powdered donuts and chocolate? BULL. SHIT. Coulson is a premium man. He has premium suits, a premium haircut, and uses premium gas. Naturally, he would get the premium treat: the one with chocolate.

Sorry, but I think that the greatest character in the Marvel movies deserves a LITTLE bit of respect and consistency in his portrayal.

  3. When’s he getting his own movie?

  4. Fun stuff.

Gotta love Hollywood. The credits are an entire quarter of the show.

  5. Avatar photo JeffR (@JeffRReid) says:

I love that this was called a “Marvel One-Shot.” Thanks for sharing this!

  6. Two points:

    1) I dig the little touches, like the Roxxon Gas being pumped at that station.
    2) The song there was an original composition called “Marvel Swing.” Can we make that the official Marvel Universe song? It’d go great with those Phil Noto period photos from Hank Pym’s collection.

  7. You can have your all-star casting for the lead roles and your big-ticket directors; Clark Gregg, and the folks who cast and write for him are what has made the Marvel movies so great, and this short just emphasizes that all the more.

  8. My question is… when does he get folded into the Marvel Universe comics, and can I get that ongoing today?

  9. great.
