Tommy Lee Edwards & David Lafuente Headline this Weekend’s North Carolina Comicon

Many look to October’s NYCC as the close of each calendar year’s convention season, but for those in the right neck of the woods, there’s still plenty to do and creators to see. This weekend sees the second annual North Carolina Comicon hosted by Durham’s Ultimate Comics at the Morrisville Outlet Mall.

Each convention has its distinct advantages over others, and in addition to more convenient proximity for a lot of fans, the NC Comicon will likely be much less of a headache to traverse than larger shows, which have grown increasingly crowded over the years. That means more time for exploration and potential face time with some favorite writers and artists. This year the lineup includes David Lafuente, Tommy Lee Edwards, Fred Van Lente, Jamal Igle, Janet K. Lee, Howard Chaykin, Steve Niles, Scott Wegener, and more. Even for frequenters of shows like SDCC or NYCC, these regional conventions are often the perfect opportunity to shop or secure that elusive convention sketch or commission that’s slipped through your fingers for years.

And fans of David Lafuente and Tommy Lee Edwards have an added incentive to check out the show:

An exciting new development now has Tommy Lee Edwards and David Lafuente hosting
a discussion panel about their new projects with writer Jonathan Ross, entitled Golden Age and Home-Run. These new ongoing titles will launch from Image comics next summer, but NCCC attendees will get an exclusive sneak-peek at the books’ designs, art, and stories. TLE and Lafuente will also delve into their creative process, demonstrating with examples from fan favorite titles like New Mutants and Marvel 1985.

  1. Just got back from this. Everyone was really nice but Tommy Lee Edwards kinda put me off at a comic shop signing. I didn’t have really anything in my collection from him but was still interested in saying hi and snagging an autograph. What i brought him was an issue of Rocketeer Adventures he did only colors for and he verbally scoffed while signing it after ignoring me standing directly at the table for several minutes. Not saying he’s a bad guy, just didn’t seem too keen for conversation and friendliness goes a long way in my book.
