They better not frak it up this time: New York Comic Con 2007

New York Comic Con is a little more than two months away and that’s not too soon to start planning for the big weekend!

It’s in our home turf so you know we’re going to be all over this thing.

Who else is going to be there? Are you excited? I’ve heard rumors of an iFanboy party, but this can be neither confirmed nor denied.

If you were around last February you know what a profound disappointment last year’s New York Comic Con was. I am going to be very curious to see what kind of lessons were learned by the convention organizers.

We’re planning our coverage now and I’m sure we’ll go into more details as the show gets much closer, but it never hurts to get the ball rolling early.

Comments

  1. I’d like to go, but I’m scared of what happened last year. If I go down there and all hell breaks loose like last year, I wouldn’t handle that very well. Patience is a virtue, it’s just not one of mine. Not going to wait in line to maybe be allowed in 3 hours later. Maybe I’ll see if I can call in a favor and get in there Friday morning. However, I enjoy the panels and the good ones are probably being saved until the weekend. Decisions, decisions.

  2. I’m thinking about going. It’s only like a two and half hour drive for me. I’m not sure though. I’ll be really pissed if I go down there and can’t get in or have to wait several hours in line.

  3. Being as I am not from New York and sadly have never been, I am not familiar with the venue. I remember on the podcast last February you said that the venue they chose at the time was not big enough or laid out well for something as big as the Comic Con. Is this one any better or will they possibly face the same kind of space issues as last time?

  4. I’d really like to go, but I haven’t made any plans to and I imagine by now it is too late. Let me jump over to Expedia and take a look.

Well, it’s not going to be as big as the San Diego Con, but then no other con is. The Jacob K. Javits Center is a rather large complex (As far as convention centers go. I guess. I’m not really an expert.), but they didn’t hold the comic con in the main hall last year, it was shunted off to the side in one of the smaller sections. This year they are apparently taking over the entire complex. We’ll see.

  6. While I’d love to go to this I’ve already got preparations for a massive meet up in Philly. I just hope the guest list is a little better this year. I think they spent all their money on Jim Lee last time. :/

  7. I’ll be there… heck I’m in the city every day!

  8. Actually, it looks like I might be able to do this.

  9. I have tickets for saturday and i bought a new trenchcoat.

  10. I would love to be in the Javits Center for something fun; my experience of NYC is almost exclusively business travel during the dotcom go-go nineties, riding a shuttle bus past the cool-looking things I wanted to do on my way to stand in a trade show booth at Javits for ten hours. (At least we had the carpet padding.)

Unfortunately, unless the Vulcans land and give me a transporter or something, I can’t imagine arranging a thousand-mile trip around an event that may well get shut down by the fire marshall. But one of these summers, by God, I will make it to Chicago.

  11. You mean Wizardworld Chicago?

    Whatever dude…

Perhaps I can suggest, in advance, the lovely breezes of a San Diego summer?

  12. ooh, it is Wizardworld, isn’t it? How embarrassing.

San Diego does sound supercool; now it’s all about convincing my wife that places that aren’t St. Louis and Disneyworld exist. I guess I better keep feeding her that manga. Of course, if the cast of “Heroes” is gonna be there, I’ll be all set.

Thanks to those fools at the ESA canceling E3 this year, I will be at the San Diego con for the first time ever. I get to travel to 1 show a year and no E3 = here I come San Diego. 7 months away and I’m already counting down the days.

  14. i would love to see an exclusive short about ifanboy stalking paul dini…also an attempt to have a conversation with kirkman that is no longer than 30 seconds….i would also like to see conor put jim lee in his pocket…

  15. I would pay good money to see conor put jim lee in his pocket

  16. Actually, the original plan was to stalk Paul Dini, and we would shoot a bunch of segments of us trying to track down Dini. But as luck would or would not have it, we found him almost right away, and he agreed to talk to us.

  17. I’ll be in Conn in Feb and I’ll have the week ends of so I’ll drive down to the con. Wonder if I’ll be able to get in….

  18. Stephen King named as final guest of honor for nycc

  19. but what about jim lee in conor’s pocket…maybe conor could wear a shirt with a front pocket and jim lee can ride around in there…he could help with interviews…or use a tiny radio to help stalk and track other comics people….

  20. I am so there. I can’t wait to see the Anime Guests they bring in. I have my ticket for the full weekend of the con and for the American Anime Awards on Saturday. This guest list rocks already, so I am off for a long weekend and will be there.

  21. Those of us who want to go to NYCC but have to settle for living vicariously now have an additional way to do that, namely the NYCC’s official podcast:

Will it be real competition for the iFanboys? Seems unlikely. Time will have to tell.

  22. I’m tired just thinking about it.

Oh, god – I hope Ron doesn’t see this post.

  24. I will be there. I live in Staten Island, so its just a ferry away (or a car trip through Brooklyn to Manhattan)

And so will Stephen Colbert apparently. Awesome.

  25. I so want to interview Colbert. I’m so intimidated by him though. He’s like my holy grail.

  26. AND Frank Miller
