The SuicideGirls Come To Comics

IDW Publishing announced a new, four issue mini-series, titled SuicideGirls, launching in March.  Yep, those SuicideGirls.  The internet sensation of the 2000s, with a website that features tattooed models along with some pretty decent content (columns, interviews, reviews – uh, yeah, I read the site for the content, honest) has been a presence at comic conventions for the past few years, leaving many of us wondering, "Why are the SuicideGirls here?"  Well now with this new mini-series, they've justified their presence in the comics world.

But here's the thing, the series doesn't sound too bad. The creative team announced features writer Brea Grant, who you may know from her acting on Heroes as well as co-writing the series We Will Bury You (also from IDW), with art by David Hahn and covers by Cameron Stewart, with the stories plotted by Brea Grant, Missy Suicide (one of the SuicideGirls founders) and Steve Niles (of 30 Days of Night fame).  So, if you were thinking this was just going to be light on story as an excuse to show tattooed girls, it doesn't sound like that at all.  They seem to be taking a solid approach to telling stories that, as the press release states, boasts "tattoos, breasts and butt-kicking as well as the secret history and adventures of these beautiful pin-up girls."

SuicideGirls, the mini series starts in March and each issue will $3.99 for full color, along with variant photo covers featuring SuicideGirls.

Come on, you know you want it…

Comments

  1. I will be handling this particular video interview at each applicable convention.

  2. @PaulMontgomery  See if you can get Tom Jane to help

  3. This certainly isn’t something I could bring home to mom…

  4. @Ron, I hope you added that pull-list joke deliberatly, and regardless if you did, i laughed like an inmature little boy, cause lets face it, i am.

  5. Really is a cool creative team. Good on ya, SG!

  6. @WeaklyRoll  HA! I so didn’t pick up on that at first glance. *snicker*

  7. Hope it’s better than that movie they made. I never thought I’d fall asleep watching a parade of exquisite boobs.

  8. I didn’t knoe Bra Grant wrote comics, cool.

  9. *yawn*

  10. backdoor into comicon?

    “beautiful” is a relative term.

  11. Oh my. This is a little absurd.

  12. Will they be involved in the Infestation crossover?

  13. @PaulMontgomery  It really is, i will be picking this up in a totally non-ironic way

  14. is suicide generally accepted as a kinky thing nowadays then?, i always thought that was just me

  15. @Asteraceae  That’s such a Ragdoll thing to say (for you Secret Six readers).

  16. @kennyg  i bet that’s a compliment but i was saying stuff like that first so watch it 😉

  17. Neat but I have some serious issues with the people that run Suicide Girls. Still, that is a cool creative team.

  18. sounds interesting, but we’ll see. this could work.

  19. Because comics isn’t already unappealing enough for females and childen, now we get porn comics from “premier” comic publishers… great. That will help the industry… not.

  20. I think the whole “Suicide Girls” thing is pretty much exclusively run by women, so it’s hard to call them anything but friendly to women. If they can take power from their sexuality why is that a bad thing?

  21. Great, now i can start masturbating to comic books.

    sorry, I mean, “continue masturbating”

  22. @JonSamuelson  It’s not, it’s run by a dude and a girl. Also, they’re extremely unfair to their models and make them sign ridiculous contracts and shit. How punk rock of them.
