The Best of the Week in Covers – 09/01//2010

Like sand through the hourglass, these are the covers of comic books. Sometimes…granular.

Avengers: The Children's Crusade #2

Cover by Jimmy Cheung

Never before has the POV of a Sentinel during a fastball special been captured so…Cheungfully.

The Last Days of American Crime #3

Cover by Alex Maleev

I feel like a wolf in a zoot suit when I look at this cover. An incredible painting befitting a sexy sendup of pulp crime.

iZombie #5

Cover by Mike Allred

Perfect claustrophobic layout with that vibrant strip of pink amidst the darkness. The lighting is spectacular. It's like minimalist terror.

Brightest Day #9

Cover by David Finch

While I'm not big on the typography, I love this painting. Just a little martian manhunting. The organic textures are so creepily realized. It's scarier than 90% of the covers that came out of Blackest Night, that's for sure. I need a Choco.

Comments

  1. You aren’t the only one in need of a Choco.  That is an exceptional cover.

  2. Paul, you are a pimp. It’s not but 8 am here in Baltimore, I’m at work, turn on my comp, and BAM! I get the covers of the week. Excellent way to start off the day. BD #8 and LDOAC #3 were def. the best of the week.

  3. That Last Days of American Crime cover is MONEY!

  4. "Forest Fire"? Really? "Martian Manhunt" is so obviously better than that as a tag line!

  5. @jimmyF. I too am in Bmore and was happy to see this first thing! Welcome aboard!

  6. Jonn Jon’z looks like Lennie from "Of Mice and Men" or Quasimoto. I like that.

  7. I zombie….. Eat highly talented artistic brains……

  8. Finch is getting Frazetta-esque

  9. How did Finch do the cover with typography?

  10. I dislike the text elements overlaid on the image, but they ultimately do little to sour the cover for me. Because I like the original painting.

  11. I looked at the cover of Children’s Crusade and my first thought was "This better be on iFanboy when I get home" XD

  12. I was hoping to see the first issue of the new Thor: For Asgard mini on here, Bianchi’s wrap-around cover is beautiful.

  13. I found the socialist realist poster styling of the cover for "Iron Man: Legacy" to be quite cool.
