The Best of the Week in Covers – 02.29.2012

A good cover is in no way like a snowflake. That would mean they melt. Gross.

The Unwritten #34.5
By Yuko Shimizu

Once again, Shimizu handles light in a way few other cover artists do. The colored lines really do make a difference. Something about the palette harkens to colorized film, lending it both an otherworldly quality and antique elegance.

Hellraiser #11
By Tim Bradstreet

Scope just aint gonna cut it.

Moon Knight #10
By Alex Maleev

Moon Knight can smell that last cover all the way down here. Cool composition once again. I love the way MK’s cowl remains undefined, an aspect of negative space.

Comments

  1. What about that Unwritten cover ISN’T perfect? The beams of light seem to mesh with the wings and golden hair seamlessly. I like the perspective a lot too.

  2. Hellraiser cover is simply amazing with the depth conveyed in such a small space as the mouth.

  3. “Nay. We are but men. Rock.”

Some really unique choices this week. That Hellraiser cover is fascinating. The way the one bridge of drool lands on the nail. Wow.

  4. The term “antique elegance” is incredibly apt.

That Hellraiser cover makes me vomit and then never eat again.

  5. Shimizu knocks it out of the park on a regular basis – thanks for the reminder Paul.

Visual Poetry, with not all poetry being angelic . The Shimizu cover in particular reminds me of Charles P Vess.
