Full Trailer: ‘Superman Returns’

Conor’s on the floor next to me convulsing from awesomeness overload. Go check out the trailer and see why he’s so excited. I do have to say, this looks like the movie is going to be good. Really good.

You have to admit, Spacey is going to own this movie.

  2. “Look in the sky, Chief”
    “It’s a bird.”
    “It’s a plane.”
    “No, it’s . . .”

“Uh, you wanted to see me?”

    Instant classic.

  3. Watched the trailer, then needed private time. That movie looks great and I do not like Superman that much. WOW,WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW!!!!!

  4. So if I go “meh,” I’m pretty much kicked off the site, then?

  5. I thought it was very unimpressive. So far it looks like a remake of the first one. I want to see Superman saving the WORLD not flying around with Lois Lane, AGAIN.

Furthermore, it was fun to see Supes being shot with bullets 25 years ago…now it seems a bit “quaint.”I want to see Braniac’s skull ship blasting away at Metropolis. I want to see Lex, high on K-Radiation, fighting Supes in his armored suit. I want to see Supes punching krypton weapon wielding terrorists into next week. I want to see anything that I HAVEN’T SEEN BEFORE.

I still have faith in Singer but this trailer definitely killed my buzz.

  6. I hate that you’re right.

  7. This is all my jaded and disappointed opnion but:

It will probably be like X-Men (and Spiderman), where it’s good, and everybody likes it, but in the end, when we want to rewatch it there’s not enough jaw droppery to really connect. Part of the appeal with the X/Spidey films, is that we had never seen them before. We’ve seen Superman, and might I add, a very good one. That inital joy of seeing our favorite caharacters on the screen, will not exist for Superman, so we’re gonna need some real whiz bang stuff to bring it beyond the Donner film.

So far it doesn’t look like we’re going to get that. Maybe they’re hiding something, maybe we’ll get the Superman equivalent of the Sentinel head we just saw in the X3 clip. Maybe.

  8. I think it’s going to rock, although I didn’t get the chills I got from the teaser “They can be a great people Kal-El, they want to be…”

    Oh getting chills writing that.

But not a doubt on earth that Kevin Spacey ROCKS!

  9. However…according to my seven year old…

    “It’s Good.”

    Not Great?

    “It’s good.”

  10. From the mouths of babes, Andy. From the mouths of babes.

I, for one, am pretty PSYCHED for this movie. If a few of you remember a couple podcasts ago, when Ron said how he got ‘shivers’ from watching the X3 trailer…I was expecting to get ALOT of them from this…but I only got a few. Maybe it seems more like a teaser, then an actual trailer to me.

I really think that this strategy would be HORRID to employ into a ‘new era’ (relatively speaking) of Superman movies. The green and purple armoured suit? Too 60’s. Braniac blasting away in his skull ship? Takes too long to employ that plot device. Krypton weapon wielding terrorists? You never know, we’ve only seen a few clips.

You also have to remember…this is for a NEW GENERATION. Sure, alot of the people who saw the old films are probably around to see this one. But with the advancements in technology and such, this could bring the whole Superman mythos ‘alive’, so to speak. It just may envelop us into believing it’s real. Instead of seeing it as a ‘sequel’, look at it as a ‘remake’.

Also…remember, this is aimed for a new era. The last movies were made some 20-30 years ago. With a revitalization of the franchise, you need to re-invigorate all the classic elements of the story, BEFORE intorducing such things as Braniac and a K-radiated Lex Luthor.

Give it time. Spider-Man started out with the Green Goblin, did it not? Moved up to Doc Ock, and then onto VENOM AND SANDMAN.

  11. I remember when X-men came out and Singer said he felt like he was only making half a movie, because he felt like he had to explain everything. I have to wonder if this is the same case, because I have to agree with the statement of “seen it all before”. I know there using the first two as cannon, but as said “New Generation”. I wonder if with part 2 of this series we’ll see some new stuff. Again it hasn’t coe out yet so you know, but this is a trailer discussion and seeing the trailer, I just didn’t get the same “Oh Baby!” feeling that I get from other comic films, or even from the teaser to this film for that matter. I’m sure it’ll be a good movie and one we, as comic fans, will look at and go, “well done”. But will it be everything it could be?

And yes Kevin Spacey kicks so much of the ass. I’d see it if it was just the Lex movie starting Spacey.

  12. I don’t think it is going to rehash a ton of the first movie. Singer said it is in a semi-continuity with the 1st and 2nd movies and that he is pretending # 3 and 4 never happened. Everyone is already going to know who Superman is and Clark will already be a reporter. I suppose they may flash back some to his childhood but I think (and hope) most of it is new story.

Plus Spacey’s Lex kicks Hackman’s Lex’s ass. People remember the first movie fondly, and for the most part it was good, but they always gloss over how stupid Lex Luthor was. I hate the funny, jokey Lex. He needs to be serious and a super-genius, and Spacey will fit that role perfectly. Boo Hackman. Yay Spacey. And there’s a reason they re-use Lex as a villan – he is the best.

I really liked the trailer, BTW.

  13. Well, it did make me smile. This trailer had none of the nostalgia factor that the teaser had. With the teaser I had shivers down mine spine when I heard the first few notes of the music. And even more shivers when Marlon Brando spoke. Although, this trailer did finally show more of what I needed to see. More Superman, more Lex. . .just more in general. Some of the SFX looked kinda hokey, but not too bad. I do have more hope for this movie than I did before. I

  14. Oh yeah, I almost forgot…SPACEY RULES!

  15. I really like this trailer. It was the lone bright spot in an awful day. It made me feel good. There are some REALLY beautiful shots in there. And most importantly – THAT IS SUPERMAN on screen. We’ve never had that before. The special effects were too rudimentary in the Donner/Reeve era.

    I trust Bryan Singer implicitly.

    BUT.

I don’t really like the casting. I still don’t see Brandon Routh as Superman. I just don’t. I’m a really big Kate Bosworth fan – ask Josh or Ron about when Blue Crush came out – but so far she has come across as about un-Lois-like as humanly possible. Spacey? Yeah, he’ll be good but he better show me something great if he wants to erase Gene Hackman and Michael Rosenbaum from my head.

  16. I’m not a Superman fan, but it looks alright. I’m going to see it soley because Kevin Spacey is in it. Funny that he’s reuniting with Singer on this one…

I do think that it’s eerie how much this new actor looks like Christopher Reeve.

  17. Understand, I’ve got the First Appearance Superman figure on my desk at work. I’m looking at it right now.

I desperately need this to be a good movie. I need it to give me chills.

  18. SOLD!!!
    i’m sold
    wow, it looks amazing

    i had doubts about spacey…but hey it’s spacey and i shouldn’t have doubted him…

    i got chills

    WOW

    8 weeks… i hope it flies by

    i can’t wait

  19. Epsteeeeeeeeeeein!

  20. Aggred on the Bosworth statement, not doing it for me at all, she looks way to young to have both a six year old kid and be a stapled reporter for a huge news paper

  21. Speaking of new, here are some designs for the new Legion of Superheroes shows. Sadly it looks like they’re following the model of the craptacular Teen Titans and not the JLU

  22. I think it looks crappy. I guess I’m not much of a Superman fan, although I like the Donner movie quite a bit. I was never convinced Singer could pull it off, and this trailer seems to confirm my fears.

It just looks so tentative, when it should be balls-to-the-wall action.

  23. Well, I guess that makes one out of 2 Steve’s, because I think the trailer looks awesome.

  24. Although I am partial to all things Marvel, I HAVE been looking forward to this movie. I may still bare a slight Marvel fanboy bias, but its Superman for God’s Sake! He’s the character that started this whole superhero thing. He is The Man…… Of Steel.

There are a couple things that confused me. This film is some sort of sequel to Superman II from 1980. Is that right? What is the deal with Lois having a kid? Who is that dad? Finally, why doesn’t the Fortress of Solitude have some sort of security system? Any multi-billionaire with an evil corporate empire can just waltz in and learn all of Kal-el’s secrets. What happened to the mega-humungous key? Oh, he is so naive that he probably left it under the mega-humungous Welcome mat.

  25. This is a sequel to Superman II, but it’s like Seven Years Later (7YL?). Superman left Metropolis and apparently Earth. Lois moved on with her life and now he’s back. She apparently married Scott Summers er, I mean Richard White and has a kid (but obviously still has a thing for Kal). Also, Lex no longer wears the fake hair because unlike Gene Hackman, Spacey was willing to go bald. Kudos for that…

  26. Also, the trailer looks cool by the way and I am very excited about the film, but I’ve learned that trailers are really not a good judge at all. We’ll find out in about 8 weeks…

  27. I know we can’t judge the film yet, but we can judge the trailer and I believe that’s what is happening here. So yes…

  28. I would argue that based on some of the posts, there are people that seem to be judging the film’s prospects based on the trailer. But understand your point and don’t disagree, analysis on the trailer as a trailer is certainly valid.
