‘Spider-Man 3’ Toys

Toy News International has some pretty detailed pics of the toys for Spider-Man 3.

Spider-Man
Spider-Man (Black Suit)
Venom

This should put to rest the “Venom probably doesn’t even show up in the movie” talk.

I don’t know what it is, but I’m just not excited for this movie yet. It’s confounding because I really enjoyed the last one. Maybe I’ll be more hyped when we’re closer to the release date.

Comments

  1. Cool, I like the Venom look. And I never doubted wither he was in the movie, as much as him being a major part, and not just a cliffhanger. I do like the design of the venom look (With the webbing and all). But I agree, not overly pumped for the film yet either, I don’t know why.

Part of it might be because Sand Man is the main villian. I mean I like Sandman, but alot of my non-comic friends who just see the movie, have NO idea who he is. Green Goblin you know, Doctor Ock. You know, non-comic fans know those characters, Sandman, not so much, and since Venom is being kept under wraps. Alot of my non-comic friends ask “Is he in it or not!?” This proves he is, but not the main, which alot of (again) non-comic fans wanted. (just talking to people I know…I need new friends…)

  2. I read an interview with Raimi where he said that he didn’t want to put Venom in but Avi Arad basically told him he had to.

I would have liked a Venom-free film, myself. I, like Raimi, prefer the classic villains.

  3. Yeah I’d rather an all Venom film, or a no Venom film. Not a “force him in and kind of have him there because…”

I like the classic villians as well. I want a Kraven film, or Lizard. Venom I can give or take.

  4. I think Topher Grace should be playing Spider-man.

  5. This is gonna sound totally lame, but the bunching of the fabric in the costume/symbiote looks pretty cool. Especially on the black suit Spidey figure.

I kinda like how the symbiote retains the cross-hatch design from the Spidey suit even on Venom. Interested to see how it looks in motion.

  6. “I like the classic villians as well. I want a Kraven film, or Lizard.” It seems like they have the technology to make anything look good now so Lizard would be cool, also Mysterio.

  7. I’m not loving the Venom suit. I don’t see why they couldn’t make it look a bit more like the classic Venom outfit. It’s iconic. Not that I’m still not really wanting to this film.

  8. I enjoy the bottom part of (Black) Spider-man, he looks like he’s wearing leather pants.

  9. I’m not loving the Venom suit. I don’t see why they couldn’t make it look a bit more like the classic Venom outfit. It’s iconic.

    Only to comic book readers.

  10. Are you serious? The only reason venom is in hte movie is because hes such an iconic/popular character. His look is classic.

  11. Iconic isn’t a term I’d use for Venom. The reason he’s in the film because he’s got a nice visual, not because he’s iconic.

I’m not loving the Venom suit. I don’t see why they couldn’t make it look a bit more like the classic Venom outfit. It’s iconic.

    Only to comic book readers.

I could not disagree more. To a lot of people Venom (is 20 years old now) is THE Spider-man villain.

He was the bad guy in most of the Spider-man video games, was featured heavily on the animated series that ran threw the 90s(where a lot of newer comic fans got their interest in Spidey to start with) and was the predominant villain in most of the Spider-man related toy lines.

In the modern age, he’s as iconic as they come.

  13. Superman is iconic.

    Batman is iconic.

    Spider-Man is iconic.

    Venom is popular.

  14. Well, Venom isn’t “classic” classic… but he has been around, and it pains me to say this, 19 years.

    19 years.

Pardon me; I must go reapply my denture adhesive.

    Anyway.

This identifies me as the lamest of fanboys, but every time I see the black costume from the movie trailers I always think “the design from the comics is better; why didn’t they stick with that?” I didn’t sign the petition at Noorganicwebshooters.com or anything, but that black suit bugs me a little.

(Black costume Spider-Man is the icon in my childhood entry into comics– his guest appearance in Transformers #3 was in the first stack of comics I ever bought– so you don’t exactly need to be a Freudian psychotherapist to figure out why I feel this way.)

This should put to rest the “Venom probably doesn’t even show up in the movie” talk.

I agree, but if my years as a reformed Star Wars collector have taught me anything, it’s that anything that appears on the screen for more than three frames can qualify for action figure duty. You’ll have to take my word on this one, me and my “brain in a jar on spider legs” collectible desktop ornament.

  15. It seems like they have the technology to make anything look good now

The CGI-touting Star Wars Special Editions are TEN YEARS OLD.

I’m just waiting for someone to put me on an ice floe and push me out to sea at this point.

  16. “Superman is iconic.

    Batman is iconic.

    Spider-Man is iconic.

    Venom is popular.”

    But only in comics?

  17. “was featured heavily on the animated series that ran threw the 90s”

This actually is false, it’s a common misconception because he appears in the opening credits of the cartoon. But Venom is only in five episodes, Eddie Brock as non-Venom maybe three. Shocker and Smithe appeard alot more in the cartoon.

  18. I’m 20 years old and yea my main interest in spider-man came from the 90s cartoon show. I knew who spider-man was before that sure and I DAMN sure knew who Venom was (I still have my Venom: Lethal Protector and Punisher Vs. Venom Foil comics somewhere) I mean I don’t HATE the venom suit/look but I don’t love it either…also on IGN they say its not the FINAL look of the toys but I’m sure its pretty damn close. I mean he

  19. Well, Venom isn’t “classic” classic… but he has been around, and it pains me to say this, 19 years.

    19 years.

Pardon me; I must go reapply my denture adhesive.

Wow, Venom is the same age as me! (Sorry pal, had to rub it in).

  20. Bizzaro scenario: This movie sucks, and Ghost Rider is an instant classic. Ha Ha Ha, I slay myself!

  21. A normal fan is excited for SM 3 because of Venom…

Do you really think so? I bet that most people are excited because they went to see the first two movies and really liked them. I think you could have Spider-Man fighting Forbush Man and “the general public” would still be excited.

I’d be willing to bet* that most people who aren’t already knee deep in this stuff don’t even know Venom is in the movie.

*I would not be willing to actually bet.

  22. Conor, you sound like the grizzled old veteran whose seen to much and lost his faith.

In my opinion(and I know it’s not worth much), Venom to the general public(under 40 at least or “most people”) is pretty recognizable, they might not know a whole hell of a lot about who the character is, but they know who he is to see him(a lot like Wolverine was before the movies).

“This actually is false, it’s a common misconception because he appears in the opening credits of the cartoon. But Venom is only in five episodes, Eddie Brock as non-Venom maybe three. Shocker and Smithe appeard alot more in the cartoon.”

But those are the episodes kids of that era remember most. Ask Joe Blow who Shocker is and be prepared to receive a nasty hand gesture.

  23. The target demo for this movie in my opinion knows who Venom is from more than just comics too. Video games and the cartoon would do that. Anyone else is, like Conor said, saw the first 2 so will see this one too.

  24. Do some non-comic reading people know who Venom is? Sure. But I think people are vastly overestimating his drawing power.

Most non-comic book reading people are excited for another Spider-Man movie, not because Venom is in it.

  25. Forbush Man rules.

  26. If only this movie was coming out in 1989…

  27. Conor, you sound like the grizzled old veteran whose seen to much and lost his faith.

    Boy did you nail it.

I agree that Venom is probably pretty popular, largely due to the comics. I would probably agree to that premise more than Conor would. I wonder if by “classic” you mean, “created by Stan Lee?”

Was Lee still on it during the Kraven storyline? That, by the way, would have been my choice for the 3rd movie.

  28. I never said that Venom isn’t popular, I just said he’s not really a draw for the majority of the “civilian” audience.

  29. I’m watchin this movie the day it comes out (may 3?) no matter what, I’m a huge spidey fan and I loved the first two movies. While I’m glad that they keep introducing new villains to the spidey movies (not like X-men which were pretty much Magneto, Stryker was crappy and Phoenix wasn’t really phoenix it was just crazy Jean) I think that they might be taking it a little too far on this one, there’s Harry, Sandman, and Venom, and Gwen Stacy is introduced so we know that this isn’t going to be 100 min of spidey adn 20 of Peter. My choice of Villain would be either Kraven or they could do the whole Vennom thing and have Rhino instead of Sandman because he can come in kick Peter’s ass for 5 minutes and then come back later and get his ass handed to him by Peter in a big action fight (which is what I think their going for with Sandman) I just don’t like them fleshing out a character that isn’t that interesting like Sandman.

  30. Wasn’t it Mysterio that killed Ben Parker?

  31. Vennom isn’t iconic hes cool and creepy.
    iconic villains
    Green Goblin
    Doc Ock
    Lex Luthor
    Magneto

    cool and scary villains
    Vennom
    Bullseye
    Joker

  32. Saw the trailer again last night before Pan’s Labyrinth.

Can’t say I was too jazzed. The black suit looks more silver than anything. Why is Peter Parker being played by K.D. Lang?

I don’t think you could call any of Spidey’s villains iconic. None of them will ever be as well known to the gerneral public as, say, the Joker or…other Batman villains really. The one thing Venom has going for him that makes him more readily known than other villains in the gallery is the consistent design. He doesn’t change much from artist to artist and comic to animated series.

Which you can’t really say about Doc Oc or even Peter Parker himself. At least not to that extent.

  33. I think that people who doesn’t read comics is exited about the movie, just for the movie itself, proves the success of the franchise…because it stands in the real world and not just for the fans.

I think that venom, after this movie is going to take one more step closer to classic-ness. We’re going to see and increment of venom costumes this halloween (like it happened with the V costume on 06)

And if everything fails, they should do a Venom light and like six months later return to Venom Classic…problem solved.

  34. the real world and not just for the fans.
Sorry for that, but you understant what I mean.

  35. Good point Simon.

Regardless of whether Venom is a draw to the flick or not, afterwards he will reach icon status. Everyone will know who he is.

I’m going for Sandman. A airplane repairman turned supervillain is a great backstory.

  36. Who would you put down as icons in the superhero world?
My list would pretty much consist of (in no order)
    Superman
    Batman
    Spider-Man
    MAYBE Wolverine

  37. What makes an Icon? Is it the amount of times the characters have sustain public knowledge? Or are they univerisally known? I don’t know, but I guess my thought is…

Icons: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern (By name I believe, some people didn’t know about Jon Stewart or even Rainer unless you were into comics), Aquaman (everyone knows Aquaman, trust me) Captain America, Spider-Man, Hulk (Yes Hulk! Even if he’s not the biggest character in comics he will forever be known, people will always know the Hulk generation after generation, he isn’t going anywhere).

And as far as Iconics Villians: Lex Luthor, Joker, Green Goblin…maybe Magneto.

  38. Well in my opinion an Icon is something or someone that can be recogonized in almost all types of media. Games comics tv movies and by most people. If by that logic then yes in my opinion I do think Venom would be considered at best a low level icon

  39. There’s a difference between an icon and an iconic hero.
An Icon would be someone who is recognized by everyone as a comic book super hero, like Superman, Spiderman, Batman, and yes even the Hulk.
An Iconic Hero would be someone who represents heroes, like someone who personafies what a Hero should be, like… Capt. America and Superman.
The only Heroes that fit both categories are Superman and Spiderman and maybe Batman….

  40. By the way I can’t see the pictures, the link works and the page loads up but its just a blank space where the pic should be

  41. Who would you put down as icons in the superhero world?

    3 words: Paste-Pot-Pete

    Now that’s iconic

  42. Oh, the Trapster never gets any respect.

    How about Willie Lumpkin?

  43. beta ray bill

  44. matbe beta ray bill will be in fantastic four 5 or 6 when they bring out thor

  45. I love Beta Ray Bill. I got this great action figure of him for like $5 ten years ago. I’m not sure where or if he’s shown up since the Simonson Thor stuff, but he was awesome in there.

  46. Beta Ray bill got a miniseries before avengers dissasembled…it was called something like Stormbreaker..I haven’t read it but saw it in a shelf not a while ago…It spun off the Thor Dissasembled issues in which Bill came to thor’s rescue.

  47. As you may know I’m not a toy person but I believe, and I could be wrong, that Beta Ray Bill is in the latest Marvel Legends Modok series set

  48. Strange… No pictures are showing up when I click on the links.

  49. Beta Ray Bill is also in Omega Flight, and you can unlock it in Marvel Ultimate Alliance…He’s all over the place…

  50. Now that I’ve seen it, I dig the venom look. I mean… It makes sense. It’s the symbiote’s manifestation of Spidey’s costume. It still looks alien/organic, and I got no complaints here.

  51. i think venom should be huger!!!!!!!
