More comics movie news, cause they’re more interesting than the comics themselves. We know that Topher Grace and Thomas Haden Church have been cast along side James Franco who’s returning, but who are they playing?
Freeze Dried Movies reports that they’ve got confirmation on their roles as the villains of Spider-Man 3! Click only if you possibly want it spoiled… you’ve been warned.
Why do these super hero movies always feel the need to increase the number of villains? I like it better when they just focus on one. I was personally hoping for Mysterio….

So, I’m not bothered by this at all. Why not trust Raimi at this point? I think Grace is actually a good actor, and if they want to take a tack with him, I can actually see it. I mean, McFarlane drew Venom as big and jacked but Topher is about the same build as Toby, so perhaps the idea is that the symbiote seeks out someone similar. Makes sense to me.
As far as the other two go, Haden Church can do Sandman, and Franco already sucked, so there’s nothing new there. Sounds like too many villains, which was the problem with X1. But so what, it can still be fun.
Bah – I’m just not a fan of Venom.
And I agree – too many villains. It happens to every superhero movie. It’s got to be marketing pressure.
I like Venom. There’s such an interesting “envy” model there. It’s the guy who’s bigger stronger and faster than spider-man, and he still isn’t better, but can’t figure out why, and that makes him crazy. I always liked how he wasn’t interested in anyone but Peter, so he was only dangerous to Peter and he knew all his secrets, making him vulnerable. But really at the core of it all, the story is that the suit is just using brock to get to parker and get him back. it’s a love triangle. So many great angles in a story like that.
Now, at the same time, it’s not possible to do a story about the black suit and why it would love peter and do the venom story as well as sandman and hobgoblin in one movie.
Or is there….
My guess is, they’ll have Harry pay for the symbiote to be made, and it won’t be obsessed with Peter, which obviously takes out one facet of the conflict. For the worse.
Anyway, my point is, it could be a good flick. but it will be tough. But I like Raimi, so he can do what he will, and I will complain after the fact, if needs must.
They should make a Secret War movie to explain Venom first…hehe
