Comments

  1. Eight books. Now that’s more like it!

    Astonishing X-Men
    Civil War
    X-Factor
    Nextwave
    Runaways
    Wolverine
    Exiles
    Possibly, possibly Sensational Spider-Man

Lots of my big faves coming out in the same week, along with goofy fun like Exiles and Nextwave. (I like my goofy fun. For days, I have been resisting an almost overpowering urge to call the 1-800 number and intone in my best Darrel voice, “Anyone who disses ‘BEYOND!’ has no business talking about comics.”)

Does it seem like Invincible should come out more often than it does? They’ll make a trade reader out of me yet.

I also realized this week that the Civil War delay has broken the Front Line spell; the next time that book comes out, it will find itself dropped.

  2. This week is insane. Can someone spot me like $900 so I can pick up all of my stuff?

100 BULLETS #76 – One more arc. How much more can I take?
    52 WEEK #20
    Deadman #2 – #1 was great
    ASTONISHING X-MEN #17
    CIVIL WAR #4
CIVIL WAR AMAZING SPIDER-MAN DECISIONS – I am a mark
    CIVIL WAR X-MEN #3
    GHOST RIDER #3
Iron Man #12 – it can’t get worse right?
MS MARVEL VOL 1 BEST OF THE BEST PREMIERE HC
    RUNAWAYS #20
    SENSATIONAL SPIDER-MAN #30
    Union Jack #1
    WOLVERINE #46 CW
    X-FACTOR #11 because I know things
X-MEN FIRST CLASS #1 because I’m an asshole and I can’t wait to read these characters at this time without hackneyed Stan Lee dialogue

Also have some back order stuff coming in, Strange Girl trade #2, most of Planet Hulk to this point(I’ll give it a shot because of the WWH thing), Pride of Baghdad, a random issue of Sidekick, Batman The Long Halloween, Batman Dark Victory.

It looks like I won’t be watching any tv this weekend. Jesus. I’m happy and all but who remembers how dry the releases were just 2 or 3 weeks ago?

And I’m still in for Front Line. I like Paul Jenkins. The delay doesn’t bother me any more than its subpar quality bothered me before the delay.

  3. 52 Week #20
    Birds of Prey #98
    Checkmate #6
    Ion #6
    Shadowpact #5
    Superman #656
    The Walking Dead #31
    Ultimate Fantastic Four #34

Best week i’ve had in a while. And i finally came to my senses and dropped The Flash.

  4. Astonishing X-Men #17
    Blade #1
    Civil War #4
    Civil War: X-Men #3
    Moon Knight #5
    Robin #154
    X-Factor #11

  5. Is Moon Knight any good? I’ve heard good stuff but I haven’t really ever read him and don’t have any background on him.

  6. Is anyone reading Next Wave Agents of Hate? I love the Millar blows goats cover but I haven’t heard anything else about it

  7. We talked about Moon Knight on the podcast when it first came out. I really liked issue one, but hated issue two and did not pick up issue three. Ron was buying it at one point. I’m not sure if he kept it up.

Someone convince me to buy/not buy X-Men First Class #1.

  8. So… many…. books

    ASTONISHING X-MEN #17
    CIVIL WAR #4 (OF 7)
    NEXTWAVE AGENTS OF HATE #8
    ROBIN #154
    RUNAWAYS #20
    SUPERMAN #656
    ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR #34
    WALKING DEAD #31
    WOLVERINE #46 CW
    X-FACTOR #11
    X-MEN FIRST CLASS #1 (OF 8)

  9. Fred, Nextwave is chock-full of explosions and hilarity. It is the manic tale of some cast-off heroes (Machine Man, Captain Marvel The Lady Version, Boom Boom– remember Boom Boom?!) who are trying to stop an evil corporation from product testing monsters of mass destruction on the populace. They fought Fin Fang Foom. I think you would have to have a cold, hard heart of the blackest coal not to enjoy reading an issue.

That having been said: every issue is basically a done-in-one, unending 24-page fight scene. While very entertaining, it is starting to get a little exhausting. With no forward-moving arc to speak of, one issue is very like another.

Which means you can jump on at any time!

Mr. Ellis, you know where to send the check.

My turn: what the deuce is CIVIL WAR AMAZING SPIDER-MAN DECISIONS, other than a very awkwardly titled book? Is this a reprint of the recent issues?

  10. I guess trying to cut back on comics the same year that Civil War is done was bad planning…

    CHECKMATE #6
    ASTONISHING X-MEN #17
    CIVIL WAR #4
CIVIL WAR AMAZING SPIDER-MAN DECISIONS (???)
    CIVIL WAR X-MEN #3
    IRON MAN #12
    RUNAWAYS #20
WOLVERINE #46 (still doing the Civil War thing? I thought Nitro was taken care of)
    UNION JACK #1 (OF 4)
    X-FACTOR #11

CIVIL WAR AMAZING SPIDER-MAN DECISIONS sounds like it is a reprint of the Spidey Civil War stories. Haven’t those comics already been reprinted once? If it is, then I won’t be picking it up.

  11. Thanks for the answers guys. I may check out them out. NextWave sounds like it may be more action than I like though.
Amazing Spiderman Decisions reprints 529 to I think 532.
X-Men First Class looks pretty cool. For me, Stan Lee was a genius at coming up with ideas but then good luck actually reading the stories because his dialogue and situations suck. Maybe they’re just dated but I can’t get into it. So this is suppossed to the original x-men team in stories that happened in between stories Stan told. 12. 52 Week 20
    Checkmate 6
    Civil War 4
    Iron Man 12
    X-factor 11

I’ll prolly flip through Se7en Gluttony #1 (big fan of the movie) and Union Jack #1.

That Rich Johnston article has me all paranoid, so as soon as I post this, I’m on full-blown MEDIA BLACKOUT until I read CW #4.

  13. Hmm… Jeff Parker and Roger Cruz.

Those names do nothing for me.

If I hear good things I’ll wait for the trade.

  14. It very well could suck. My judgement is suspect. I own 2 issues of Claws.

It could be worse though, the names could be Daniel Way and Rob Liefeld

  15. I would love a Rob Liefield Wolverine book.

  16. the defense rests

  17. I love Nextwave. I haven’t read the singles, but I got the HC and really liked it. But it’s typical Warren Ellis quips and over the top jokes. But… I like that kinda thing. Nice change of pace. Not as good as Desolation Jones, but fun. Jimski’s review is pretty right on.

I’ll be picking up Runaways and Civil War.

  18. Pretty good week this week:

DWIGHT T ALBATROSS THE GOON NOIR #1
    52 WEEK #20
FLASH THE FASTEST MAN ALIVE #4
    ION #6
    QUITTER SC (maybe?)
    SUPERMAN #656
    WALKING DEAD #31
    ASTONISHING X-MEN #17
    CIVIL WAR #4
    CIVIL WAR X-MEN #3
    IRON MAN #12 $2.99
    ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR #34
    WOLVERINE #46

Man, I hope this new Goon mini brings it and doesn’t suck. Everyone needs to read the Goon. It’s one of my favorites.

And Nextwave is good, though I’m waiting on picking up the trades. I’m pro-Ellis.

  19. DC

    52 Week #20 $2.50
    Checkmate #6 $2.99
    Robin #154 $2.99

    Walking Dead #31 $2.99

    Marvel

    Moon Knight #5 $2.99

    Dark Horse

Dwight T Albatross The Goon Noir #1 $2.99

Pretty happy with this week. THe Goon, The Walking Dead, and some DC goodness. Looking forward to it.

Fred – Moon Knight should really be a tradewait title. It’ll probably read very well collected, but its stuttering in single issues. I’ve only still got it pulled because I’m a big Huston fan from his novels.

  20. Thanks Baxter. I just noticed it in the December previews at lunch and I think I’ll get it then

  21. 52 WEEK #20
    SUPERMAN #656
    WETWORKS#1 – mike carey fan

    UNION JACK #1 (OF 4) $2.99
    WOLVERINE #46 CW $2.99
    X-FACTOR #11 $2.99
    X-MEN FIRST CLASS #1 (OF 8) $2.99

This week is surprisingly no bigger for me that usual, despite the presence of quite a few high profile books. It’s mainly because there aren’t many good DC books out this week i guess, and no Indies that I am reading.

  24. Big week for me.

    52 WEEK #20
    ASTONISHING X-MEN #17
    CIVIL WAR #4
    CIVIL WAR X-MEN #3
    RUNAWAYS #20
    SENSATIONAL SPIDER-MAN #30
    WOLVERINE #46 CW
    X-FACTOR #11
    EXILES #86
    ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR #34
    SUPERMAN #656

    Must…stay…away…from…spoilers….

  25. Darrel, at least, will love this:

I forgot that Thor used to be a crackwhore
    That is great. More please

  26. 52
    Astonishing X-men
    Civil War
    Exiles
    Iron Man
    Runaways
    Sensational Spider-man
    Ultimate Fantastic 4
    Wolverine
    X-Factor

  27. Pretty big week for me.

DWIGHT T ALBATROSS THE GOON NOIR #1
    52 WEEK #20
    DEADMAN #2
    SUPERMAN #656
    ASTONISHING X-MEN #17
    CIVIL WAR #4 (OF 7)
    GHOST RIDER #3
    MOON KNIGHT #5
    SENSATIONAL SPIDER-MAN #30
    UNION JACK #1 (OF 4)
    WOLVERINE #46 CW
    X-FACTOR #11

Besides the obvious choice of Civil War, the other book that I’m really looking forward to is the Goon Noir series. I think it’ll be interesting to see someone else’s take on those characters although Eric Powell has them nailed. Did you see the letter to the reader in one of the most recent issues about the issue he has put on hold called “Satan’s Sodomy Baby”? DH is supporting him but he has decided to put it on hold for the time being. When it does come out, it should be a riot.

  28. A huge day for me tomorrow: 11 books.

    52
    Checkmate
    Robin
    Superman
    Astonishing XMen
    Civil War
    Runaways
    Union Jack
    Wolverine
    X-Factor
    and against my better judgment…
    The Flash

Obviously, I’m excited about Civil War. I hope to actually avoid the spoilers. We’ll see if I can pull it off. I’ll probably read it in the parking lot of the LCS.

After that, Checkmate will be at the top of the list. Suicide Squad was a favorite of mine growing up (the Ostrander run). As always, Runaways and Whedon’s X-Men will get a high placing on the list (I’ll freak out when Whedon acutally writes Runaways-too good to be true). Robin and Superman have been quality OYL, X-Factor is on a nice roll. Wow, what a great day for comics when 52 (last week’s deserving PoW and great the last month or so) is one of the last to get read.

  29. Hey guys, I just wanted to ask an opinon of you all….I’m not sure if it’s been asked YET because I haven’t looked through the entire thread.

The Infinite Crisis hardcover is coming out tommorow for about 24.99. I was thinking of spending the money to buy it, but i’m not quite sure. I mean, I bought all the original 7 issues of IC.

My question is, should I buy the Hardcover, or just re-read my back issues.

(P.S.: Has anyone read ‘The Pride of Bahgdad’? I’ve been hearing some good reviews but I wanted more of a personal opinon.)

  30. I would be a decent amount of money that there’s going to be an Absolute edition of IC. I’d wait for that, if it appeals to you.

Supposedly a lot of the art problems are going to be fixed when IC is collected, so I’d think it’s probably worth picking up some sort of collection.

  31. I think it depends on how much you liked the series. If it is a favorite and you want it on the shelf to read through frequently, then you should get it. I loved it, but I’ll probably wait for the Absolute Edition which will undoubtedly be out soon, but cost a fortune. If they go back and have Jimenez and Ordway do the whole thing, as originally planned, I’ll definitely get it.

  32. I MAY Wait for the Absolute Edition. It was a thought in my head.

I’ll definitely buy the eventual ‘Civil War’ hardcover collection thingy by Marvel.

  33. 52 Week Twenty
    Astonishing X-Men #17
Birds of Prey #98 (Enjoyable most of the time)
Blade #1 (Hope the new launch is good)
    Civil War #4
Conan #32 (Anyone else read Conan?)
Conan and the Songs of the Dead #3
Flash #4 (Getting better, but the jury is still out)
    Ghost Rider #3 (Good re-launch)
Ion #6 (As good as GL)
Iron Man #12 (I’m ready for a new story arc)
    Robin #154 (Consistently good)
    Superman #656
    Ultimate Fantastic Four #34
    Union Jack #1
    Wolverine: Civil War #46
    X-Factor (Fun read)
    X-men: First Class #1
